Central Location with lots of local flavour

Positive first impression of HK.. see comments

Took the airport bus (A11) to and from the hotel which was $130HK for a return ticket each (as opposed to $180HK return on the MTR to Sheung Wan Station, and then a 10-12 minute walk on busy footpaths to the hotel). The hotel is a 6-7min walk from the Macau Ferry Terminal stop (across an over-bridge with stairs though) and even shorter walk (approx 4 mins) to the stop going back. All staff (front desk, security gentleman and housekeeping) were ainvariably friendly, complimentary umbrellas for guest use in the lobby in case of rain. There is a bond on the room amenities, which is refunded after a quick check of the room by a staff member on departure. Spotty wifi access in-room - not a big deal for us but may be an issue for others. Computer on the LVL3 lounge (newspapers and television). A little awkward with only one key and one powercard (for lift access and room power) allowed per room. As my husband used the laundry and computer on the 3rd floor, he had to take the powercard with him. It just takes a little planning when going out separately. The room was an oasis in the August heat: air-conditioner worked well, shower was terrific, room was spacious and well designed. View of the back of apartment buildings, which is interesting to see. Fridge was handy for cold drinks (2 bottles of water on arrival) and food. Crockery was 2 large bowls and 2 mugs with 2 sets of knives/ forks. Large supermarket about 5 minutes walk away called 'International' on the LVL2 of a building above their bakery on Queens Road West (behind the hotel) just several store-fronts past the crossing lights. If you want to see a Hong Kong local fresh food market - the Sheung Wan Market is a 3 storey building just a few minutes further up on the left hand side of Queens Road West - fresh meats, fish and produce on the first 2 floors, and the third floor is a food court catering mainly to locals. All stalls have an English menu though.
Hotel Feature Tip: Tips: - ask for a local area map which they have behind the reception counter. It marks out the supermarkets etc - Use the buses and trams as opposed to the MTR to travel along to Central and Causeway Bay. The route is a straight line and the stops are just outside the hotel, as opposed to the MTR station which is quite a walk. - the door to the room clicks open when you open it right back (in reference to the review by jissen who had a problem with moving his luggage and stroller in and out of the room. - boil the kettle and keep that water to fill up the empty water bottles for your outing during the day. - take a business card of the hotel from the Front Desk to show to taxi drivers should you need to come back by taxi. It has the address in Chinese to save you trying to explain. This is quite a new hotel, so not widely known. Taxis are super cheap in HK.

didn't mention a gym, otherwise I'd have taken my gym kit. Other than that was a great stay.

Hotel is quite new

big room

hotel is not in the center of activities. mtr station is far about 20 mins walk but tram and bus stations is just outside the doorsteps. if you take the tram, it will take you 20 mins to reach central, 40 mins to reach causeway bay and more than an hour to reach tai koo. rooms are big and new but housekeeping do not clean the rooms, they only make up the bed. this is the first time i experienced a hotel in which all the dirt, papers, hair on the floor are still there after the room has been made up!

Nice and roomy for a good price

large room and relatively good location
7.3
I enjoyed my stay at 60 west. If i go back to hk i would definitely check it out again. The bed was comfy and as mentioned, the room was large so you dont feel cramped. The price that they charged was quite good for hk standards. Only problems are that extra towels are charged and they dont provide soap but just bath gel. Overall small issue in my opinion as those can be prepared for. Room comes with usual amenities such as safe and ref along with a microwave. Lots of cabinets and drawers to store your stuff.
Hotel Feature Tip: The hotel will only give you one key. If travelling as a group and you have to split up, just leave the key with reception so there won't be a problem as to which group that returns first.

Large size room for Hong Kong

Room Size is Rare in HK
6.7
It is within walking distance (15 mins) to Central, but at the Western District. Surrounded by dried seafood stores selling shark fins to salted eggs. Most of the stores in this area closed on Sunday, but restaurants remain open. The room size is bigger than the average 5 stars in HK, great value for money. However, it is not a luxurios hotel with bare basic minimum such as TV and a refrigirator.

Great location and big rooms

room size, quiet, convenient

stayed here for 3 nights and overall it was a pleasant stay. while the hotel employees are extremely nice, the actual service is lacking. there were small mistakes (room not ready for check-in due to broken toilet and no working internet in room) that in a service oriented hotel would have been remedied with either immediate attention or some extra concession. instead, our broken internet problem was resolved with a deposit for an ethernet cord. i think its just a new hotel that needs to work out its kinks, but the location, clean rooms, and friendliness of the staff make the hotel worth a room (at a discounted price!)
Restaurant Tip: Queen Street Cooked Food market is right around the corner and has delicious Nepalese/Indian food!!
