Safe area, next to major shopping area, museum Staff is nice.

Since this is a hotel for international travelers, food in the restaurant is western style. It would be nice to have middle-eastern style food, as well. Internet is only available in the first floor. Bandwidth is limited. This is a problem in Egypt.

The Shepheard hotel is located in a safe area, next to the US. Embassy, and across from the Nile river. It is within walking distance to the National Museum and shopping areas. Breakfast buffet has a variety of choices. It is reasonable in quality. For room service, the choice is limited with western menu (typical, burger, steak, fish, pasta, prepared in western style). It would be nice to have middle eastern style dishes as well. There is no internet in the room. This is a problem as business travelers expect internet in all hotel rooms. Wireless internet is only available in the lobby. There are too many users on the same network and it is very slow. The staff is very nice and accommodating.

Very spacious room with kitchen and washing machine. Water side apartments have a great view from the terrace. Wish I had more time to enjoy the beach, pool and spa.

Some of the appliances did not have the correct electrical plugs. It is a bit of a cab ride to the downtown core.

Very happy with my stay. Would gladly stay at this hotel in the future.

Hotel Feature Tip : Be sure to treat yourself to a massage at the spa.

enormous room, very good service, fantastic view over the river nile.

traffic noise all day and all night. shop in hotel could have been better. it was difficult to reach the entrance and next to impossible to stop outside.

I stayed for a week, and had a very nice time. the hotel has atmosfer, but is not as luxirious as the hotel near by.

Sightseeing/Attractions Tip : the egyptian museum five minutes walk away.

Location was great. Right next to the Nile River.

Rooms are in a state of decay. This was once a nice 5 star hotel, but it is only a 3 star today. Showers would go from freezing cold to scalding hot without warning. Most of the staff speak little to no English. Front desk will try to slip additional charges through on the bill. They will hold weddings at the hotel that are so loud, you can hear the noise six floors up from the lobby. Internet is only available in the lobby and if you sit at some of the tables, staff will harass you to buy something to sit at the tables. The staff is rude and provides poor service. Plumbing was substandard and rooms were not clean - hair in the tub. Room A/C was poor and the room was often hot.

This is not a Western friendly hotel. They cater to Middle Easterners and treat Westerners with disdain. I think they are using their past status as a 5 star hotel to get by today. Watch your money, because they will try to slip charges through on the bill. Breakfast is supposed to be complimentary, but they charged me 100 EGP for breakfast on the day of checkout, because I was checking out. The staff is rude and provides poor service.

Sightseeing/Attractions Tip : Pyramids of Giza, you are harassed by sellers to buy something or they find angles to part you from your money - they really destroy the sightseeing experience. The most interesting pyramids are at Sakkara, where there are no sellers and the tourist crowds are fewer.

Pleasent and clean, very well situated.

Contradictory staff. Arrived at 4:30 AM we were asked to wait to 5AM to be given a free early check in. When leaving we were presented with about $45 extra charges for the early check in. We didn't mind to pay, but the night receptionist had told us that it was free.

Sightseeing/Attractions Tip : Very well situated for visiting the Cairo museum

Free WiFi in lobby, English speaking staff, Nice rooms.

Not near markets or restaurants, no wifi in the rooms, very pricey for the area, example $4 can of soda

The hotel is comparable to around a 3.5 star hotel in the US. It was very clean, had elevators, restaurants, and friendly staff. We would recommend eating outside of the hotel, due to overpriced food in the restaurant. The only problem with doing this is there is very few alternatives nearby. The lobby offers free wifi, although it is quite slow at times.

Sightseeing/Attractions Tip : The hotel is very close to the Egyptian Museum, which is worth a couple hour visit.

Good location, with Beautiful Nile River view.

Its a very old Hotel >125 years old, with not so good maintenance such as my room door little damage, toilet not upgraded, the lift is noisy- out of date, need to upgrade.

We enjoyed stay in cairo , i think a good price for shepherad hotel with a best location at beautiful nile river. It just a oldiest hotel in Cairo, we think it was 5 star hotel, but we see through all facilities , it seem to be 3 or max 4 star hotel. We suggest to management to improve/ upgrade the faciliies in room , lift, gangway carpet, gang way lighting. thx

Well known, central, most facilities (but no pool). Very large quiet, clean room.

Long messy check in and check out, service in restaurants inattentive, particularly in the coffee shop. A general feeling of arrogance.... No Internet in room (but free wireless in coffee shop). No pool, no view from much advertised roof terrace.

This hotel is a Cairo landmark and is 5 mins walk from the Egyptian museum. It had over many years an excellent reputation, but since it has been taken over by a local group is appears to be living on its past reputation. Service for this level of hotel is not up to scratch. It regularly takes 15 minutes to get a coffee in the lobby coffee shop, and the same amount of time to pay the bill. Everywhere in the hotel they have problems with small change. Getting coffee at the good buffet breakfast can be quick or it can take 10 minutes to attract the attention os a waiter, it all depends.....in short, not consistent.

- Convenient Location - Staff - Food

- Very old - Highly priced compared to others in class

Stayed in Shepheard for 3 nights. the hotel was nice and not too bad in terms of quitness. very convenient location. and the staff were also good. having good laundry services. it is a renovated hotel but still looking a bit old. I knew the price is high compared to other hotels in the same class but had to stay there for many reasons. I recommend Shepheard for families, couples, etc.

Nice and good service.

To avoid some rooms on second floor as it is noisy due to discotheque downstairs. Windows are not well sealed and they do not stop noise from street.

We passed wonderful days thanks to the nice team working in and the nice installations. It is well located as you are in downtown in 10 minutes walking or you can negotiate one of many taxis down street. Breakfast is fine even though I missed some cereals. First night we were obliged to ask to change room at 1.00 as we could not sleep as all room was vibrating at the sound of the music downstairs. They offered a second room in 9th floor courtside. I was astonished to realize that room was vibrating again. This time with the noise of the air pipes outside. The third room was more static even though that the poor windows closing system allowed us to listen all night the cars running and their claxon (in el cairo cars use claxon every 10 seconds in order to make sure that the world knows about their existence).

Good location - on the Nile, near the Museum and downtown shopping areas. Good Breakfast with wide selection.

Hotel is old - built in the 1950's, furniture and fittings are old, beds are old and mattresses not comfortable, hotel staff do not speak fluent English making it difficult to communicate with them. Rooms are not cleaned well. Overall the Hotel could do with a major face lift and rennovation.

I stayed at this Hotel when it was run under the "Helnan" Swedish Hotel Chain and was know as the Helnan Shepherd Hotel. The standards then were much higher. It seems the new owners have not invested much in the hotel in terms of staff, furniture and fittings. Most of the furniture etc are worn out, even the paintings hung on the walls are torn. The hotel needs major upgrade work to it, if it is to maintain its 4 star rating. Therefore overall for the amount we paid, I do not think its worth staying at this Hotel. A chain such as Intercontinental or Hyatt were offering similar rates at a similar location, but giving the assurance of a hotel standard that their brand ensures worldwide.

Hotel Feature Tip : The rooms on the upper floors offer a good view of the Nile, so opt for them.

I loved the location, I loved the older, classic feeling of the hotel. The wait staff was excellent. The room was very clean, and I adored the balcony!

None

This hotel is a classic! The restaurant is very good--breakfast was included in my rate, and it was as good as any i've had in the Middle East, even had a chef making made-to-order omelets. Fresh fruits, an abundance of breads, rolls and pastries, Middle Eastern and Western breakfast foods. Everyone was very polite and well-spoken. Service was excellent. My room had a balcony overlooking the Nile; I watched the boats, the Cairo traffic below, it was a great addition to the stay. My room was made up with care. I absolutely loved my stay in Cairo at the Shepheard Hotel--it was like a very nice neighborhood hotel, where they know your name when you come and go. I would absolutely stay there again.

Sightseeing/Attractions Tip : You're within a 10-minute walk of the Egyptian Museum where all the mummies are!

Close to center of city, relatively low price. Wireless internet in lobby. Kind staff.

Smelled terribly of smoke and old cooking oil. Worn environment, food average at breakfast, poor for room service. Full of revolving tour groups that can be noisy.

I would never stay here again for the smell alone. View and price ok. Avoid food.

Sightseeing/Attractions Tip : Walking distance to cairo museum, taxis plentiful. Intercon hotel across street much better lobby and food for business clients or relaxing.
