Best place for weddings on Mauritius
10
We stayed in La Pirogue for 9 days and had our wedding ceremony there. The hotel is located on the best beach of the island - Flic en Flac and has very big territory covered with palms. As all rooms are in the separate bungalows all guests are separated by beautiful gardens and has quite a lot of space to enjoy nature.
The rooms are very big and you have a lot of space inside - much more than seen on the photos. As bungalow roof is very high and shaped into triangle making room planning asymmetric and feel very special. It is very different from other hotels.
Staff is very responsive and helpful, rooms are clean.
For the couples that are looking forward to get married on Mauritius we would highly recommend La Pirogue because:
* It is located on the west coast so you can have wedding on the sunset
* It is located on the most famous and wide beach on the island
* The staff in guest relations will help you to organize everything you can imagine for your special day
* Royal suits with private garden are just what you'll want for your first night ;)
* Scenery for the photo shots is great with hundreds of palms you'll never find anywhere on the island.

we feel really lucky to choose this hotel for our vacation in mauritius.we opted halfboard option and it turned out great for us since we really dont hv enough energy and time left for us to wander around for food after a whole day of explorations.we went out for activities every morning and came back late evening,so we suggest halfboard if u are planning to have day out like we did.the room was great, the landscape was amazing and the beach is wonderful.we arrived there late at night and we were too tired to hv our dinner, after a few minutes of filling up forms and finished our ice creams(yes, they served us ice cream and drinks...;) )we hv been sent to our cozy little cottage, and to our surprised they did return and served us dinner in room...how amazing....
one more thing that will make us come back is their kids club...every evening my daughter will spend a very good time over there untill its close at 10 pm.overall,la pirogue is a very fantastic place to stay...;)

La Pirogue Hotel, Mauritius
4.3
The rooms and facilities were adequate but not luxurious. Bearing in mind the cost we felt the room basic, almost spartan and more fitting of a two or three star hotel.
The hotel itself was large and impersonal. It quickly became apparent that the main focus for staff were the large tour groups rather than individual travellers.
Before sunset we walked for ten minutes to the adjacent Sugar Beach hotel, which shares facilities with Pirogue and sat down to enjoy a drink in the beach front bar. It was definitely quieter and more relaxing then La Pirogue. Very pleasant spot to enjoy a few drinks and watch the sun go down. However around 1930 we found ourselves alone....the other guests having rushed to dine! Living and working in Asia we normally eat later in the evening and found it quite odd how everyone rushed off to eat their evening meal at the same time and not relaxing at all.
Fortunately we had booked dinner at the smaller restaurant in La Pirogue, near the sea front rather than the main restaurant where 'entertainment' was also provided. The meal was ok, nothing outstanding and marred by the fact the lighting was so dim we were unable to really see what we were eating. We also had to pay extra for eating there! The bar by the beach was almost deserted after dinner and, not wishing to join the 'organised' entertainment at the main restaurant and bar we had an early night.
Overall our stay at La Pirogue was disappointing and, as we found out the next day, had we continued another mile or so down the coastal road we could have stayed an extra night at the delightful Maradiva Villas instead of wasting a night at La Pirogue. The difference in price was only small yet the comparison of facilities and service huge. At Maradiva we had our own, luxuriously appointed villa complete with private pool, a quiet beach and watefront pool that were both quiet. Plus the restaurant served a delicious evening meal in a delightful setting.
