Oasis of calm in a crazy city
Very quiet, clean, close to La Place, close to the souks, very friendly staff
8.7
This is a lovely, clean and comfortable riad, about 7 minutes walk from the main square (triangle!) Jemaa el Fna, and even closer to the souks, but once inside you would think you were in the middle of nowhere.
My girlfriend and I stayed for 2 nights in February, and although we were extremely unlucky with the weather, the staff at the hotel were very helpful and friendly - the friendliest people we met in Marrakech in fact.
The room was spacious, comfortable and beautiful, although if you like your privacy beware that the en-suite toilet is - although hidden round a corner - not separated from the rest of the room by a door or even curtain.
The hotel is quite difficult to find; the nearest the taxi could drop us off was a good 10 minute walk through the maze of alleys around the medina. We ended up paying a 'guide' a few pounds to show us to it, which I admit was a little scary at first, but he showed us straight to it, and it stopped everyone else offering to be our 'guide'. When you have your suitcase it's very difficult to look for a hotel while looking like you know what you're doing, but I think most riads would be tricky to locate for the first time.
I certainly recommend this place and would definitely stay again.
Sightseeing/Attractions Tip:
While you expect to be hassled somewhat in a city such as Marrakech - especially in the souks - the stall/shop holders are generally very friendly and will not pester you too much. I found the 'guides' far more annoying and intrusive. The medina is a very confusing maze of alleys, so it is easy to become disoriented; even the very official-looking signs seem to completely mislead at times! As soon as you venture off the beaten track at all you can find yourself bombarded with people directing you back to the 'big square' and telling you there is nothing to see the way you are going. Be aware that if you even vaguely accept any directions from someone you may well be entering into an unspoken contract, and they will expect some money when they've guided you! A polite but firm 'Non, merci' at the outset should avoid any misunderstandings.

We felt so at home here!
Extremely helpful and friendly staff, yummy breakfasts, and very comfortable accommodations

This was the perfect Riad for my friend and I. We were on a bit of a budget but still wanted to stay in a lovely place. Riad Abaka satisfied both of those requirements. We were welcomed with traditional Moroccan mint tea and a brief tour of the accommodations and amenities. (Note: it maybe helpful to arrange for someone from the riad to meet you at the gates to the medina. We tried to find it ourselves and got a little lost at first...then made the mistake of confusing a young man's desire to make some money with kindness to show us the way. There was a bit of an altercation, but our staff helped us out when we arrived and the man went on his way.)
The staff was able to help us organize a day trip to the Atlas Mountains, as well as the most amazing Hammam experience. There was an option to have a massage at the riad, but we highly suggest walking to their recommended hammam for what promises to be the best afternoon of your life. They also helped us find a nice riad in our next destination, Fes.
Wifi was very weak to non-existent in the rooms, but works just fine in the common areas. Breakfast was able to be served each morning at the hour of our choosing.
This riad was perfect for us!!! We will definitely stay there again when we return to Marrakech. Thank you so much to everyone at Riad Abaka!!
Best,
Cady and Morgan
Nightlife Tip:
Women should not walk around at night alone, however the staff was able to escort us when we needed to be out later. So nice!
