Meerendal is situated on the cool southeasterly slopes of the Tygerberg Hills near Durbanville, a mere fifteen kilometers from the cold Atlantic Ocean to the west and twenty minutes from the city center of Cape Town. The unique pattern of the cool summer winds that blow through these hills ensures healthy grapes of great character. The rich red Meerendal soil has a heavy clay base, resulting in excellent water retention right through the summer months. Although the annual rainfall on the estate is a mere 550mm, there is no need for irrigation due to heavy dewfalls and water retentive properties of the soil. Cellar master Liza Goodwin coaxes award winning wines from hand tended vineyards. These noble varieties include Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, Pinotage, Shiraz, Merlot and Pinot Noir.

Escape the office rush to the tranquil atmosphere at Meerendal just outside Durbanville, only 20 min from Cape Town. The Barn & Lawn is our main function facility for 60 to 150 guests. The Wine Tasting Area is available for functions for 20 to 50 guests.

Barn and Lawn
The Barn and Lawn is an all purpose function venue at Meerendal Wine Estate that is situated in the cool Durbanville area twenty minutes outside Cape Town. The buildings on the farm have been restored in order to accommodate the new vision of making Meerendal a home for food and wine. Meerendal used to have a big herd of cattle and the barn was used as a dairy for many years. Today the beautifully renovated Barn with the spacious lawn next to it is the perfect venue for an elegant dinner, special celebration or corporate event. The Lawn area was specially created to enhance the look and feel of the venue and any kind of marquee can be put up on this large green area to accommodate up to 500 guests. A modern kitchen has been built to provide the best cuisine for any event. Meerendal’s famous wines that are served will complement any event. The Barn and Lawn is an all purpose function venue at Meerendal Wine Estate. The Barn has become one of the most sought after wedding venues in the Cape. You can celebrate your wedding day in the tranquil setting of Meerendal’s vineyards, wheat fields & mountain views. In addition you can exchange your vows in the quaint wooden, candle-lit chapel. Wine Tasting and Sales
Visit the Meerendal Wine Estate and experience the flavour of a 300-year-old farm. Awaken your senses. Drink up the hue and viscosity. Know what it takes to make a noble wine and then savour the experience over lunch. Tutored tastings can be arranged and are hosted by either Liza Goodman, Meerendal's resident Cellar Master or renowned Cape Wine Master, Bennie Howard. The Meerendal heritage dates back to 1702 with some of the oldest Pinotage vineyards in South Africa. Today the vineyards yield a wide range of speciality and award winning wines prized for their Meerendal quality and flavour.

Manor House Restaurant
At the time of the new owner taking over, a strategy was formulated to implement Food and Wine on the Estate as its main focus, hence the slogan - “The Home of Food and Wine”. The Meerendal wines are elegant fruit driven wines ideally suited for matching the excellent cuisine that you can expect at the farm.

Deli
The Deli is situated in our cellar door area and we specialise in a variety of homemade delicacies including jams made from the grapes grown on the farm, rusks, home made biscuits and a variety of other items that will remind you of Meerendal’s hospitality when used at home. A new feature at the Deli and Tasting room and Cellar door sales with its fantastic view from the balcony is the introduction of cheese platters. Our cheese partner is Simonsberg Cheese and we made a selection of Camembert, Gouda, Cheddar and Simonzola cheeses from their port folio to have available as snack platters during wine tastings.

Travel for approximately 5.1km and turn left onto Modderdam North Road. Travel for approximately 2.9km and turn left onto Voortrekker Road/R102. Turn right onto Durban Road. Travel for approximately 1.3km and continue onto Willie Van Schoor Avenue. Travel for approximately 2.5km and continue onto Durbanville Avenue. Travel for approximately 4.1km and continue onto Main Road. At the roundabout, take the first (1st) exit onto Vissershok Road. At the roundabout, take the second (2nd) exit to stay on Vissershok Road. Travel for approximately 3.5km and turn right to entre Meerendal Wine Estates. Travel 500m further to destination.
