Good location

Good location, good service, OK room.

Not up to 4 or 5 star hotel

Location, shutter bus on time
not up to the 4 or 5 star as given. Need to upgrade the rooms in their old building not worth for the money we are paying. The room were rundown and there's weird smell in our first room where we request to change to another room

Sub-standard housekeeping

Location, 2 individual members of the staff provided some professional service, same individuals could speak English (others not)
The stay at Alishan House I was an overall disappointment, despite the excellent location and the beautiful scenery. The room was run-down with worn-looking furniture. The worst part was the bathroom which was full of stains and mildew - very unhealthy and unhygenic. We had to clean our own bath tub because it had a grimy gunge of bathtub ring which we had to scrub with a toothbrush to get off. Obviously it had not been cleaned properly for a long time. We tried to complain without any result. The room was in the older "historic" section of the hotel - advice is to ask for a room in the newer wing to avoid this bad experience. Food was mediocre and serving staff have no manners and no training to serve international tourists. Only the lady in the gift shop and 1 Philipino bellcaptain could speak English in the entire hotel. As a result, we were woken up 3 times in the very early morning around 4 am by a mandarin speaking staff to get up to watch the sunrise even when we had said we did not want to be woken up when we checked in. Obviously our wish was not understood. This hotel has a very serious problem in communication other than in Mandarin.

My Experience at Alishan House not as expected

The manager from the store was very corteous and helpful during my stay.
My experience was not the best. Since my arrival was at night there was no way to communicate from the visitors center because it was closed. A taxi driver did a favor and called the hotel to pick us up because cars are not allowed to be driven to the hotel area. I did my reservation throughout Agoda 3 months before my arrival and the first thing I heard on the phone is "sorry we don't 111 台湾 台北市 士林区 故宮博物院(正館) your reservation". The store manager help us communicate with the staff and fixed the problem. The room was not good as expected. Old without the scenic view they described. The drain on the shower was clogged, bed was hard as a rock and there were exposed electrical wiring next to the toilet. I do not recommed this hotel to anyone. It is worst than a 2.5 star holiday inn.

Dirty and a waste of money

Our room wasn't actually ready when we checked in--so we waited in the hallway while the cleaning staff worked out the issue with the front desk. Apparently their system doesn't properly register which rooms are actually ready for new guests?! The front desk finally re-assigned us to a different room that was supposedly "ready." But the room was far from clean. The couch cushions have stains, there were spiderwebs in corners, leftover tea that had missed the trashcan was still on the floor, there was mold-like substance on the bathroom wall, and a faint mildew smell permeated the room. Aside from cleanliness, the room (and building itself) shows poor maintenance and attention to detail. The furniture is missing many handles and knobs. The curtains have large holes. And the fire escape map on the back of our door was for a different floor. Aside from having the advantage of location, this hotel is worse than a typical Best Western because it charges four-star prices for motel-like accommodations. Explore other options, including offerings outside the gated park area, if you can. If you still opt for Alishan House, caveat emptor.
