Nice room, chaotic check-in

room, rooftop bar
7.7
Lovely room with lots of character (I stayed in "Water"). Frustrating lack of internet in the room. Check-in was chaotic, they had double booked my room, staff offered me an inferior alternative room but refused to refund difference in price. I dug my heels in and eventually got my originally booked room but it was a hassle and check-in staff seemed inefficient and out of their depth. Rooftop bar was very good with a great atmosphere, a good place to meet friends old and new, reasonable prices and good food. Hotel is a bit tucked-away up a backstreet but it's not too far from central Thamel, walkable in 5-10 minutes.

over thier heads

location was great. the bunk beds didnt creek or shake.

this place is way over thier heads. the staff tries but have no idea what thier doing. the owner must not have trained them to deal with too many people. they need to lessen capacity so they dont give away our beds. the tour agency is more expensive than any in town. the toilets were clean with supplied paper but dirty showers and sinks were unisex . our floor had 8 rooms of 6 and only 1 shower. hmmm

Great atmosphere for a young adult!

People, location and rooftop lounges

My stay at the alobar1000 was a great time. The staff is super friendly and the place is pretty clean. Great way to meet travelers that are your same age and very like minded. Close to shopping and bars aswell. The rooftop is an amazing place to have a tea, beer or food. The food is surprisingly good and cheap. Such a fun atmosphere it makes you forget about the hustle and bustle of Kathmandu!

Great to meet people

Roof top bar

This is my second stay during my Nepal travel. I loved the staff. Roof top bar is awesome. There were not many people in this off-peak season. The internet is slow and does not work in the dorms. I would still like to come again.

I enjoyed my time at Alobar1000. Their staff is friendly, young and helpful. There are many activities and the best part is that you meet a lot of people. Great for a solo traveler. The only problem is that the road outside the property is muddy during monsoon rains.

Disgusting, disorganized reservations, rude staff

It was easy to locate based on my guidebook's map.
2.7
At check in, they tried to send me to another hotel because my reserved room was still occupied by someone who hadn't even paid for it. I was told to wait a little bit - that turned into hours. The other occupant took his time leaving when he finally did come back, the staff "cleaned" the room in two minutes. I had reserved a balcony room , but I got about three feet of balcony that looked onto a construction site. The room was scary dirty, I was afraid to sleep on the bed it was so gross. Carpet was nasty throughout the room. My room was accessed via several buildings and firescapes - not easy to navigate with a large backpack. Not safe. Not clean. Rude staff. Ok breakfast whenever the dining room "manager" would wake up. Had to beg for certain items though, because they didn't feel like making them. Permanent vagabonds hanging out on the roof terrace smoking pot and drinking. This place is really sketchy. I would NEVER EVER return. The photos do not show what it's actually like.

Accessible and convenient

Great friendly staffs, very close to the tourist buses that goes to the other main areas (Pokhara, Chitwan), and a great place to meet other travelers.
8.7
I had a really good time staying at Alobar. It is only 2 minutes walk out to the tourist buses that takes you out to Pokhara or Chitwan, and there is a couple of ATM situated just ouside near the accommodation about 100m down the road. It's also only about 5 minutes walk away from the main Thamel center for shopping. There is hot water for showers most of the time and the toilets are pure basics, but it is expected for a backpacker location costing ~5USD per night. Rooms are generally pretty clean and you also get a set of keys to your room, and a personally locker as well. It's a great place for meeting many new fellow travelers as well if you are wanting a bit of company for meals, or setting up trekking parties. Overall, I personally found it a great place to stay at.
