Very nice hotel but the restaurant is a failure

Nature and design

The hotel is really nice, beautiful well maintained territory and garden, excellent service. Everything is well designed and decorated. Beach is quite good as well, a bit too shallow during low tide but it's like that everywhere in Panglao. Everything is good about this hotel except food. Since there is nothing around except some private houses, u r stuck with the only dining option - to eat at Amarela. Menu is very limited, prices are rather high, small portions and the worst part is the quality of food. Everything is eaither too dry or too salty or too oily or too greasy. Eating in sake of filling in the stomach yet paying like in a restaurant of a 5 star hotel is not really the way it should be. Ended up going to another hotel (around 20 minutes walk along the beach) just to eat.

Great resort with very personal touch

Location, atmosphere, beach

We were at the Amarela with our 4 year old son and immediately liked the place. It has a very personal touch and one can see that the owner put a lot of personal engagement in the place. Design is lovely, cleanliness great. In addition to a very nice stretch of private beach there is a very nice infinity pool. With a view to our boy it was very positiv that the only exits of the premises are through the reception area and via the beach which is watched by a securiy guard - thus we could allow some free roaming on the premises. The beach itself is nice, allowing pretty beach walks. It is a "wild" beach, however. At low tide there are rocks, coral and sea urchins, making swimming more or less impossible. At high tide it is better but still no great swimming - a problem we encountered frequently in the Philippines. For relaxing and enjoying the view it is still excellent. The resort is making a great effort to keep its own stretch free from sea grass. The location up on the cliff and going down in terraces to the sea is great for everyone loathing the busy atmosphere at Panglao's main beach. Downside of this is that you depend on the restaurant and facilities of the resort - there are no destinations within walking distance. Of course transport can be arranged but it is pretty expensive and economically makes only sense if you want to go for at least half a day. The staff was very friendly and, as almost always in the Philippines, great with children. Attending to children as guests (eating with parents in the restaurant, having no yaya as go-between) seemed to be a challenge at times, though. Although worth noting: The rooms are rather on the small side. Summing up: We are looking forward to our next trip to Bohol and would probably stay again at the Amarela.

Lovely hotel with distinct local design & ambience

Design that blends local aesthetics

Got this hotel from my reward points from Agoda. Guess what? Same price. So I dont understand what the rewards are for. Dont even know how they calculate it. Just the same, since I virtually paid for the exact price as others who did not use their rewards, the hotel is nice with distinct local flavors in the design. Its got a nice beach and service is good.

"Enchanting hotel with great service."

lovely and charming hotel.

courteous and ready to assist personnel. Prices are just right for the quality of service. Although their transportation is quite expensive. Generally enjoyed the place. Rich in Bohol Cultural heritage.
Hotel Feature Tip: surroundings with natural fauna and flora. Lizards abound the place which is a natural pest control. Don't be afraid of them as they are more scared than you.

This is the place to relax. feel the sea breeze and enjoy the service they provide. It's a quiet resort, and I love the way it is.
Restaurant Tip: they have the best food with reasonable price. I actually look forward to dine in their restaurant for every meal.

My home in Panglao.

It 's a beautiful hotel, secluded from the usual crowded areas of Panglao. The staff were very attentive and efficient in providing us the service we needed.

I will most definitely go back and stay longer at the Amarela Resort.

Great Hotel with Great Staff

Amarela is a Bohol inside Bohol representing the culture and traditions of Bohol.
8.3
if you want to visit bohol, amarela is a smaller version of bohol inside bohol. our stay in amarela was one of the best. especially kids enjoyed a lot. rooms were very comfortable, decorated nicely and represents the culture of bohol. in fact every where in the resort you can feel the essence of bohol and it's historical culture. the resort have a very huge dvd library where you can choose your choice of movies from thousands of choices. there's a small museum in the resort which gives a detailed history of bohol island. although beach is a bit small but its neat and clean. infinity swiming pool and play area for kids is also one of the attraction which will give your kids the best time. you don't wanna miss the breakfast at amarela restaurent in the morning with a pleasent view of ocean, tress and singing birds. although the restaurent don't have too much variety of food for lunch and dinner but still available food is excellent in taste (but a bit costly). most importantly, the staff of hotel is very nice and friendly and they will really make you feel at home. there's also a souviniour shop in the resort. transport is a bit of problem as hotel transport is expensive and the location of resort is not easily accessable to public transport/cabs. amarela also have city tour packages although it's a bit expensive. if you want to go out only once, you can use hotel transport. they also offer only pick up from any part of city to hotel. if you are looking for peaceful time in private with no disturbance, amarela is the answer but if you want a party and crowded nights, you might dont want to come here.
Restaurant Tip: The resort restaurent closes early so be prepared if you want to eat at late night. Also if you are staying more than 3 days, you might get out of choices in food from hotel restaurent. There are couple of restaurents near by and they give delivery to your hotel/room.

the hotel provides transport to and from the ferry. the room is adequate. it is quite small and there is only one restaurant - they do try to add daily specials to their menu and the cooking is good. had a good time, only that the price is a bit high comparing other hotels in the same area
