Small clean rooms with friendly staff
We arrived back in Khoasan Road at 05:30 from Koh Tao, made a booking for Amarin Inn and headed there after breakfast to be told that check-in is at 14:00, so we dropped off our bags and headed to the train station (4km away) to make our reservations to Loas. when we arrived back at 13:30 we checked in with a very friendly/helpful lady. The room was small as already stated under the room details (9sq/m) and without a view, but I'm 6'5", so as with a lot of places in Asia I do find comfort somewhat hard to find, however when you have a bathroom with a toilet facing the closest wall with about 1ft clearance I am not sure how anybody other than a small child can use them comfortably. The bathroom door would also not open fully as the sink obstructed it, and when the shower (had hot water) was in use the whole bathroom is covered in water. That being said, the room was clean albeit with blood stained sheets, toiletries were supplied, it had AC, satellite TV, Wi-Fi and the bed was pretty hard but comfortable enough. Rooms are non-smoking and the only place to smoke was outside of reception. A simple breakfast is included tea, coffee, juice, toast, jam, butter and cheese crackers. Our train was booked for 20:00 the following evening, and we easily arranged a late checkout for an additional 200 Baht. Overall, good location with helpful and friendly staff but if you are looking for somewhere comfortable to stay more than a night or two, you can definitely find better for the same money.

Very lovely place. Perfect quality/price value
Helpfull stuff, clean sheets, good wi-fi
We stayed for 4 nights. It was a very pleasant stay. Price/quality ratio is perfect. We were lucky to meet owners of the hotel. Very nice people. We hope to stay one day in their soon to come hotel in Malysia. The area is fun for backpackers and tourists.

Awful
Location
How this hotel has been rated 'pleasant' is beyond me. I stayed in a small room which just had an overall sticky feel to it, the room was also damp to the point that my sheets and pillows felt moist. The 'window' is a thin sheet of plastic facing the corridor which offers not privacy or security. I couldn't turn the air conditioning on due the putrid smell that came out when I did and the place is noisy and the owner is rude. There are far, far nicer places nearby for the same price or cheaper.

Ignore the rating. Not a review for Amarin Inn.
The owner. Can't say more as we were moved to Smile Buri Guesthouse.
We could not stay at Amarin Inn as it was full the evening we arrived (these things do unfortunately happen) but the owner was very kind about it and arranged for us to stay at his friend's hotel around the corner at no extra cost. This could be considered his obligatiob, but he was very helpful and walked us around to the hotel and made sure we were checked in ok, which is more than some would do in the same situation. If his hotel is anything like him I'm sure it is lovely, it's just a shame we weren't able to review it. In case of interest Smile Buri Guesthouse is great. The rates are higher than at Amarin Inn (around 900B a night) but if you can afford it the rooms are big, clean and the beds are top quality. The guy who runs that place is really friendly and helpful too.
