Beautiful place, experience of a lifetime

Mahout experience, staff performance, great food
9.3
Got a driver to pick us up at the airport and since then, the experience has been nothing but joyful and great. The staff(including driver) ensured that every effort is made to make us feel comfortable and happy. Food is included in the resort price so that's great and considering that there're no other eateries near the resort, we were so great the food provided was delish ! Mahout experience was fun and educational as the staff showed us how life is for the rescued elephants. We even got to meet a baby elephant there! Overall, though costly, but this experience is definitely worth your money, even if it's just for once.

Best hotel experience ever!

Luxurious, beautiful surroundings and great staff

From the word go, We felt like royalty the moment we stepped into Anantara. We were greeted at the door with flowers. Our room was of the upmost luxury, no detail had been forgotten. We had an enormous balcony which overlooked the infinity pool and the Burmese mountains. The staff could not have been more friendly and attentive. They were very accomodating to our needs. We had 3 days worth of activities booked via the hotel and everything was typed up into an itinary for us. One of the activities was Mahout training. We rode the elephants and also bathed with them. We were very much looked after and there was 2 mahouts to every elephant which made you feel safe. An experience I'll never forget. Might I add that the elephants are very well looked after and there was nothing circus like about it which was reassuring. One other special event that we shared at anantara was "dining by design" in the baby elephant camp. My partner and I had our own private dining experice away from the hotel at there baby elephant camp. We had our own chef and were surrounded by baby elephants. My best meal experience ever. My partner and I were very sad to leave after our 3 days there. It felt like home and we were saying goodbye to a new family. We will be back soon I hope.
Sightseeing/Attractions Tip: Must do the Three Countries in One Day Tour. Also Mahout Training is an absolute must. The elephants are adorable. Cookery school is also of the upmost quality. You can have one on one training. The chef takes you to the local market and shows you local products you then have a picnic by a temple followed by spending the morning cooking and then eating your creation.

The most expensive hotel of our stay in Thailand, yet not the best. We were disapointed, and consider the Hotel is not good value for money. Very far from other points of interest, difficult to get to, and even more difficult to leave from, so get ready to stay in the hotel full time during you stay, including all meals. Yes, the staff is nice and welcoming (but that seems to be a standard in Thaliand) but then the room is "average", no amenities, shower inside a large not very appealing bathtub. Although good weater and hotel occupancy not full, The Spa was always fully booked (and not possible to book 2 pedicure at same time anyway because I was told there is ony one therapist to do this... this is not a 5 star service for a "Spa" hotel in asia) Also I booked the hotel for my birtday, and we did mention it to staff management upon arrival. In the evening we had dinner with champagne and wine but we were surprised the managment did not do anything special to celebrate. I had experienced all kind of nice "gifts" in other hotels for such occasions, from free drinks to little spa voucher to flower in the room or candle on your desert ...but we had nothing like it at the Anantara... they just brought the gift my boyfriend asked them to bring at the table at the end of dinner and that is it...well OK, it is not mandatory to do something special but would have been nice. Then comes the very good point, the hotel is hosting a private elephant camp where you can enjoy "mahout training wich is 100% great, nice staff and fantasic experience. Hotel pool area is worth it as well, charming, cosy and relaxing. But then 2 times a day shuttle service is very poor service as there is virtually no other way out!! On the day of check out we asked the hotel for a taxi but it was extremely complicated, the staff asked us if we had a taxi phone number (??) then called it and said it would take 1h to come, then offered the shuttle of the hotel for a very expens
Sightseeing/Attractions Tip: Go visit the opuim useum 5 min walking distance from the hotel
