Location, balcony overlooking the street, helpful staff

Noise from neighboring clubs and bars could be heard at night; limited breakfast choices

For the price, I think the room I had provided good value, especially since it comes with free breakfast. I liked the balcony that allowed me to look to the street below. However, I think the same balcony allows much of the noise from the street to seep through to my room. The staff were very helpful in identifying a guide and a tuktuk driver for me during my stay.

Sightseeing/Attractions Tip : It makes sense to hire a tuktuk driver who speaks English to bring you around town. Ask the reception for recommendations.

location, good stuff

Small rooms, breakfast

We stayed in this hotel for two nights, 17-19 Aug 2009. We are satisfied, the room was small but clean, the bathroom was ok, the personnel was very helpful and the breakfast nice. It is located in a big road but there was not much noise, because of the double glasses I think. I can recommend it for anyone who wants a cheap but good stay.

Lovely features, from hotel entrance to lobby. Good japanese fusion restaurant at reasonable prices, but certainly not budget fare. Really helpful, professional staff with good command of English, Japanese and German

Rooms without windows -- avoid!!

The Hotel Cara is certainly a good choice for the mid-range budget traveller. Well located just a few blocks from Wat Phnom and Post Office Square, the hotel has a great feel from the time you enter the building. A great Japanese fusion restaurant is located onsite. On the downside,I chose to stay in cheapest room which has no windows. DO NOT DO THIS. Even though room well-appointed and with good toilet/bath facilities, the lack of a window impossible to bear, even over only the three days of my stay.

clean, staff members are polite and helpful, chic decorations, close to some of the attractions (e.g. Wat Phnom)

standard rooms have no window

The hotel is clean and tidy with chic decorations. It is close to some of the attractions like Wat Phnom and river front. You can have meals at restaurants nearby. The staff members are polite and helpful. Communication in English is not a problem. Free access to Internet. The bad thing is that standard rooms do not have windows.

Friendly && Helpful Reception; Clean & Tastefully designed Lobby & Restaurant; Clean & Spacious Room; Clean Toilet; Easy Accessibility to city & entertainment outlets & fast WIFI free.

None

Upon reaching Cara Hotel, the frontage was elegant. At the reception I was attended by beautiful and helpful receptionist. The general enviroment both outside and inside the hotel is clean and pleasant. The clean is spacious for a 3Star Hotel in this region. The aircon is good and the toilet and the bedsheets are clean (very important factor to consider in order to have a good sleep). There is The Emerald, a beautiful place to dip into nice drinks and soak into dancing mood with good dance music across the road and a nightclub on the left of this hotel. Wow, Cara Hotel owns The Riverhouse (good dancing and drinking place) & Amara Spa (a 5Star Relax & Spa) too.

Small & Personal, In-expensive but tasteful decor, Great Staff, Good Location

Night Club Across the road.... Didnt mind it, but my old man had a bit of a restless night

I loved this little Hotel, Rooms are small, but clean. It's a little 3 Star with the heart of a 4 star. Decor in-expensive, but tasteful. Well done to the decorator for making it work on a small budget. I was sold on the Pictures I've seen. We had a tight budget, and didnt want to stay in a cheap nasty hotel, Hotel Cara was so affordable for the room incl. Breakfast + it was a pretty little place..... We really enjoyed our stay. The staff were great (Just love the Cambodian People) No airport transfer though and watch out for the night club across the road.

Sightseeing/Attractions Tip : The Russian Market is Fantastic! Better than the Market in Siem Reap. More authentic. The trip to the Killing Fields was heart breaking, a great sadness, but very humbling. Makes you appreciate what you have. Museum was ok, if you're into that sort of thing, would rather have done the Toul Sleng Prison (Didnt get around to it - pity) Silver Pagoda / Royal Palace... Worth a quick visit. Have dinner at FRIENDS Restaurant, good food, good cause and Buy the recipe book! Lemongrass Restaurant was Great, more on the expensive side but well worth it.

Nicely decorated lobby area, friendly staff.

Loud at night, room small and very basic.

When we checked in, the staff was helpful and the lobby area was nice and appeared to be recently redecorated. The remodel apparently stopped there - our room was very small, very basic, with old furniture and fixtures. We asked for a better room but they were all the same. If this is all you want it may be OK, but based on their website, our expectations were higher. The real deal killer for us was the EXTREMELY loud bar (with super bass!) across the street that didn't close until after 2:30 am. The street traffic was also loud and started at 4:30 am which didn't help matters. If you're into partying, this might be the right place but if you're interested in sleeping during the night, forget it. After a mediocre breakfast we checked out and moved to the Phnom Penh Hotel which was about 50% more but a much better value for us.

1) Friendly Staff 2) Good Japaneese Restaurant 3) Pretty Lobby

1) New club under construction next door will open in late-August) 2) Club across the street already makes for really loud nights 3) I'm pretty sure the 'restaurant' across the street is more than a restaurant.

Our stay at the Cara hotel was an above average experience. The hotel staff are incredibly helpful, and speak nearly perfect english. They were able to make solid recommendations for travel and sightseeing, and book transportation for us. The hotel also has a few terminals available for free internet use, and wi-fi throughout the hotel. Our stay was in a balcony room, which overlooked the street. The room was plenty large and very clean. Please note that we found there are 3 different "Cara" hotels in Phnom Penh. "Hotel Cara", "Cara Hotel", and "Hotel Cara Hotel". Some of the reviews I've read elsewhere were pretty terrible, so I think they must be about one of the alternate hotels.

Travel tip : Very easy walk to Wat Penh from the hotel. Nathan Horton Photography is a DO NOT MISS activity for those visiting Phnom Penh and traveling with a DSLR.

-free wi-fi internet access -free computer as well -clean -friendly staff -they sell bus ticket to other cities

-noisy at night, opposite to a night club

i have stayed in 3 hotels in phnom penh and this is the cleanest one in my experience. the only bad thing is the hotel is located opposite to a night club which its real noisy at night. The restaurant in the hotel was not bad, as an alternative, you can walk to the restaurants or bars at riverside around 10 mins or by tuktuk. hotel staffs are helpful as well, which provide all the info i needed, they also sell bus and boat ticket to siem reap and other cities in Cambodia.

modern, clean and tidy rooms.

music from nearby nightclubs.

the rooms facing main street (with a balcony) are very nice rooms. however, at night time, the music from nearby nightclubs is not conducive to a good night's rest. i ended up moving to a room after the back of the hotel (no windows). reception staff were fantastic. japanese restaurant downstairs one of the best restaurants in town - great value.

Restaurant Tip : Romdeng - great menu, awesome staff Friends - similar to Romdeng (same concept) Malis - very chic, great food

- Struggled to think of any.. well it's a cosy clean hotel

- Location is not within casual & easy walking to the attractions around Sisowath Quay except to Wat Phnom - no hot shower

We were checked into a very small room with no window.. probably their smallest ROH (run-of-house) room. Had a feeling we were in a HongKong Hotel... Were ready to put up with that cos the room was clean & well facilitated BUT only until we turn on the shower tap.. no hot water we had take cold shower during that late night Brrr.. SIGH Complained to the front desk the next morning and the attentive & sympathetic staff promised us that it will repaired by the time we returned from our short tour of Phnom Penh but ALAS ... that promise was not kept!

Our room was very quiet. The staff were very helpful and pleasant. When we had a problem of a flood they fixed it immediately. Very reasonable. They updated us into a room with a balcony/window at no extra cost.

We were not right where the restaurants are but there was always a tuktuk handy and not many visitors walk much at night because it isn't very safe. Our room did not lock!

The Hotel Cara was a very reasonably priced Hotel to stay in, in Phnon Penn. When we arrived and realised we had booked a room without a view they found us another room (without any fuss) that had a view and there was no extra charge. The staff were both helpful and pleasant. It was comfortable and clean, they change the linen daily.
