Pretty in principle but not in practice Guest Rating: 3.3

Angkor Village Hotel is lovely but at over $100 per night they should be able to provide both fluent English speakers and hot water 24x7. Even simple questions, like a late check-out, required three people and several answers of no before they allowed a delay of one-hour. I expected an up-sell when asking for hotel assistance in arranging a tour of Angkor (tuk-tuk drivers outside the door of the hotel charge less than half the price for all-day assistance), but was disappointed to be charged 3 times the going rate for airport transfers (it's only about 10K). The worst thing was trying to shower before departure (long flight back to US) and finding no water. I had to use water in the decorative flower pot to rinse-off. My adamant complaint was met with smiles and apologies. Either they did not understand what I was saying or pretended they did not.

• Sightseeing/Attractions Tip : Don't bother with the Floating Village. It costs as much as Angkor Wat and can be seen in about 30 minutes. One gets to see poor Vietnamese begging from tourists. It would seem that few villagers see any of the money the tourists are paying in admission. Sort of like visiting a Favela in Rio but at least in the Favela the tour was not the primary source of income for the inhabitants. The only culture at the Floating Village is tourism.
