Staff was relatively helpful and polite. Design of hotel traditional/modern was nice. Balcony was an attractive plus. Swimming pool nicely laid out.
Farther from town central than anticipated. No sign of DVD player or daily newspaper as represented on-line. Cleanliness typical for Cambodia, meaning far from international standards. Robes supllied but were filthy and had to request replacement. Never able to get tea to taste OK, couldn't figure out if the bottled water, the teapot or the tea bags were at fault, but couldn't have that morning cup of tea. Food for breakfast barely adequate. Also, we were charged $1.65 for a small bottle of Evian (or whatever the comparable was) which cost $.50 at the local mini-mart.
Sightseeing/Attractions Tip : The Angkor temple complex is one of the most wonderful places to be in the world. There are three basic tours, the mini-tour, the grand tour, and the tour that goes 50km out of town to Bantey Srei temple. So many of the temples are wonderful and different that I recommend seeing them all as time permits. But the temples are not physically easy to deal with--the heat and humidity is overwhelming and the facilities are meager, both bathroom and walkways--so you usually split the day into a morning session, go back to your hotel and siesta, and then have an afternoon tour. We were there during a cool time and used a tuk-tuk ($12/15 day) for transportation; cars ($20/35, depending more on barganing skill than car or driver ability)with air con a better bet in hot weather; saw many folks on bikes but be prepared for a longer harder ride than maps suggest. I lived in Cambodia for several years and found it the most different place I have ever been and some of the differences are great, and others leave you scratching your head. I was stopped by airport security when departing Siem Reap and told I could not take three chicken wings onto the plane because the barbecue sauce could be gel!! But anyone who has the remotest chance to see the Angkor temples, for one day, three days, a week, or forever, should go. Peaceful, awesome, strange, exotic--but see Angkor if you can.
