Great location. Very comfortable room. After renovations, the hotel looks nice.
Difficult to get a taxi at the hotel. If it rains, don't even try to get a taxi at the hotel. There are none, and the hotel staff is not at all helpful. They just tell you that there areno taxis and ask you to walk 50 feet outside the hotel, where you will find a congregation of taxis. The drivers demand an exhorbitant fare and refuse to use the meter. I paid 50 RMBs for a 14 RMB ride. My complaints at the reception fell on deaf ears.
The lobby is not attractive enough for a 5 star hotel.
Hotel Beijing is located at an ideal spot, close to Wangfujin street. The hotel looks quite grand. However, the front lobby could be better decorated. It looked too plain for a five star hotel of this stature. I did not find the front desk staff and the Concierge very helpful. Finding a taxi on a rainy day is an impossibility. It is so inconvenient that I will not be returning to this hotel. On the last day, I asked the front desk clerk to check my flight status, and she informed me that it was on schedule. She took the call around 9:30 a.m. When I went to the airport, I was informed that due to volcanic dust in the air on my planned route, my flight was canceled. Furthermore, they informed me that their office opens at 10 in the morning, no callers would have got any information before that time. It appears the clerk didn't really call, but gave me false information. All this is to say that the front desk personnel are useless and can not be trusted.
I shall not go back to this hotel and I would not recommend this to anyone. The government should crack down on these crooked taxi drivers. The group of taxi drivers outside the hotel probably belong to the local mafia.
Hotel Feature Tip : Getting a taxi is a major problem. If you complain to the Concierge, he will suggest you take the hotel car. Just a comparison: ride to the airport in the hotel car is 400 RMBs compared to 100 RMBs by regular taxi (if you can find one).

Hotel has a wonderful location, steps from the shopping areas, Tienamen Square, the Forbidden City.
Beautiful lobby area, good service.
The rooms are in need of refurbishment, the bathrooms also.
This historic hotel is in a wonderful position. It couild not be better situated for a visitor to Beijing. The rooms are good sized, a bit worn but certainly of a good standard. Idem for the bathrooms. The service is excellent, and the staff is very helpful, and can help make arrangements for transport, and other requests without fail.

the best features of the hotel is the location, its near the shopping area, the food, and the tourist destinations namely the Tienamen square, The awesome Forbidden Kingdom, Beihai and a lot more to discover
The only thing i dislike about the hotel is that our floor smell like tire. Dont know why.
The hotel best feature is its location, its near the tourist destination namely The Tienamen Square, here one can visit the monument of The Great Mao tse Tung, the Forbidden Kingdom and the Beihai. Our room is situated in such a way that we can see the Forbidden Kingdom. Just a 15 minute walk to the place. I enjoyed the hotel because of the gym , its equipt with the latest machines, my daughter enjoyed the pool.
The hotel is connecting to the Raffles Hotel so its great exploring ...
We went outside to eat, because the restaurants inside the hotel is very expensive. One can just walk to wangfujing road , there are a lot of mouth watering foods to discover.
Sightseeing/Attractions Tip : Near the Forbidden Kingdom and Tienamen Square
