if I need to recommend one hotel is this one. 4 stars going to 5, good lobby and good staff. Is only 3 blocks from forbidden city, near restaurants and shopping mall, and near a lot of attractions, railway station and subway. If you can, go to this hotel, I recommend 100%.
Sightseeing/Attractions Tip:
3 blocks away is the forbidden city, very big and beautiful. to the other direction you have a shopping mall and the novotel with the famous restaurant inside.

Great location, not too far from TianAnMen Square

Overall the stay was pretty good. At first I think they put one of the rooms in a regular room when both were supposed to be deluxe rooms. I called them and they fixed it right away. The hotel staff if friendly but I think their English needs a bit of improvement for a high class hotel with an large international audience.
Other than that, I didn't use any of the on site services like the spa or restaurants. The bowling alley was down for construction so that was a bummer.
Sightseeing/Attractions Tip:
the hotel is around 5/10 minute walk from tian an men so if you want to save on taxi fare, you can just walk there. there is also many rail stations not from from the hotel so you can take the very convenient beijing railway to alot of places for 2 dollars a person. (that price includes transfers to different rail lines, the ticket works to get you into the rail station once and out once.

Accomodating hotel. Nice big rooms that look out over the city. (I think we recieved an upgrade upon arrival). I don't reccomend the buffet restraunt - food was so/so and the room cold. Staff were accomodating giving us trow rugs for the kids when they were unable to adjust the temperature. Overall we would stay in this hotel again and reccomend it to friends. Walking distance to subway station.
Sightseeing/Attractions Tip:
Staff at the concierge organised a wonderful trip to the great wall for our family. Cheap and efficient. I reccomend their service over the local travel agents.
Also gave us good deals in their gift shop.

Capital Club the Way to Go

As mentioned elsewhere, it's worthwhile to stay at the Capital Club level for the included breakfast, local phone calls, evening refreshments, two daily soft drinks, one article laundered daily, etc. The service was always friendly, the pool and sauna were good, and the room was comfortable.
Restaurant Tip:
For great Beijing shao mai, go to historic Du Yi Chu on Qian Men Street (Qian Men Yi Tiao Jie) south of Tian'anmen Square. Otherwise, it's a sanitized tourist trap.

Fantastic hotel close to everything

Capital Hotel is fantastic. It's decor, staff and services are 5 star. Staff spoke English very well and were very helpful with directions. Lobby has two internet Kiosks free to guests which is always a plus. Rooms were excellent and in great condition. Bathrooms were very spacious. Overall an excellent stay, and great location close to many tourist attractions.

i stayed in building a. they have upgraded me to deluxe room without asking. room was big but air condition was not good at all. avoid staying in summers. location is okay, convenient to go to wangfujing street and tiananman square. overall rating should be three and half star and not five star. better stay in novotel which is on same street down the road.
building b seems new and with better facilities however i did not get time to see that.
