The beds in this place were a joke... they were not even real mattresses... but hard pieces of plastic. This place is a bunch of facades and the staff continually tries to trick tourist into paying more for taxis, food and room upgrades?
Close to Tiananmen Square; Forbidden City, Night Market
This hotel is really a motel at best... paper thin walls, no real doors to the bathroom and the staff tried to trick us into taking an upgrade.
- Hotel Feature Tip : Don't stay here if you planning on having a good night's sleep.
Avoid this hotel by all means

This hotel was a great disappointment. On the website it looks quite good. The budget rooms are indeed below the ground floor and the smell is terrible. We changed room to one on the 2nd floor. The carpet was very dirty. All in all a very expensive hotel for what you get. It probably used to be good when it opened but maintenance has not been a major preoccupation of the hotel.
Location is good, very close to the forbidden city
- Hotel rooms in bad condition
- Expensive for the value you get
- Breakfast very expensive
- Hard toget to the hotel as taxi drivers do not know it
Convenient Location

This hotel has value for location. It's a short walk to Tiananmen Square and the Forbidden City, plus good shopping. It is near the subway, which gets you where you need to go. The staff is friendly and conscientious, though not terribly proficient in English. The rooms are small, but clean. The air conditioning works, which is a must during the summer. The carpets are a bit frayed. Internet access is a little over a buck for a half hour in the business center--free would be better. The challenge is getting there if you don't know the city, because the hotel is located in an alley. The cabbies don't know where it is. The solution: have them take you to the Beijing Hotel near the Tianenmen East subway station, and walk the block or so.
The rooms are small but clean, and the air conditioning worked. The staff was friendly and tried to be helpful, but only moderately proficient in English. The location is great--walking distance to Tiananmen Square and the Forbidden City, and close to the subway.
The hotel is in an alley, behind the Beijing Hotel, so trying to describe the location to cabbies is a huge challenge. It's best to ask to go to the Beijing Hotel, and walk a block or so from there.
- Sightseeing/Attractions Tip : Tianenmen Square and the Forbidden City are about a 1000-meter walk west from the hotel.

Given the timing was during the olympics we were a little apprehensive about a budget hotel, but relying on others praise about the DAYS INN FORBIDDEN CITY, we stayed....and loved it. THe staff is very helpful and are capable of communicating in English. The location is key....just a few minutes walk through a beautiful park and you are at the front entrance of the forbidden city and Tiananmen Square. We will definitely stay here again.
Great location, friendly staff. Easily accessible by bus, taxi and the subway. Rooms are clean, layout is nice and quiet and the price was great.
Nothing really bad about the place but the breakfast is expensive for what it is. Eat at a food stall next door.
- Nightlife Tip : Eat hot pot.
Great location if you're going to Olympics

The hotel has two sections. One section is exterior with no connection to the lobby, which was not good on the rainy days. The front desk staff were polite, but not really helpful as at other, larger properties in Beijing. Also, there were notes on the desk that the ATM was out of order and to ask at the desk for information on other ATMs. I asked and was told to Wangfujing. That wasn't helpful. They'll only help with getting a taxi if you're going to the airport.
Near Wangfujing and the tourist attractions of Forbidden City and Tiananmen Square
The main road, Nanheyan Dajie, is closed all of August 2008 to taxis. If you want one, it's a hassle to walk through the hutongs or park to flag one down.
- Restaurant Tip : Really good jiaozi (dumplings) just a few doors south. Some folks from LA asked how I found it; I had just wandered by. Their guidebook said it wasn't to be missed.

I wanted an air ticket PEK-JFK New York. I asked multiple times for the address to the AirChina offices and each time personnel at the desk said to just have the business center book my ticket. After 36 hours of asking at both places, the woman at the business center asked if New York was in the USA. At this point I told the front desk I needed the address and would not purchase the ticket from the business center. They produced the address in Chinese.
I've never stayed at a hotel in China (8 visits) and not had the staff constantly offer to write information and addresses in Chinese. This staff didn't seek opportunities to help or provide service.
good location
staff inexperienced and business center staff rude and unhelpful.
- Hotel Feature Tip : Rooms in the annex are bigger, but they don't connect to the lobby. During bad weather the annex can be a problem.

Make sure to have your hotel address/Days Inn brochure handy to give to the cab driver for directions to the hotel.

Overall, you get what you pay for. Location isn't that much of an issue in Beijing as you could easily stay at any hotel that is near a subway station or bus station and you're good.
- Travel tip : Hitching a taxi in Beijing is somewhat confusing as the cab drivers can't stop on major roads and intersections which in my opinion makes riding cabs even more difficult than riding buses and subways.
Very nice hotel at Beijing

Booking information (e.g. hotel name and address) needs to be provided in Chinese characters. The taxi driver I used took me to Days Hotel and Suites, a 5-star establishment, because the woman at the airport wrote the wrong Chinese name. Overall, it took me nearly an hour to find the right hotel.
- Nightlife Tip : The area around Workers' Stadium has some great clubs.
