It's not far away from the metro station and indeed very close to a street famous for shopping and dining.
The washroom could be better cleaned.
They have WiFi facility but is only available at limited areas, not in my room. The courtyards are nice to have a look if you want to see traditional Beijing houses. The staff are attentive and (basically) English proficient. A bit difficult for taxi to get into the narrow Hutong (alley) where the hotel situates. There are some nice restaurants nearby. Overall this hotel is not bad for staying 1 or 2 days.

quaint and old style, friendly staff
some rooms can be very small
i like staying at this hotel as the price is competitive and the style of the hotel is very periodic but it still has all the best features of a modern hotel. it is perfectly located in the centre of beijing for me to do business locally and easy access to the airport and train station. the staff are always friendly but don't speak much english
Restaurant Tip : very authentic chinese restaurants are located in the same area as this hotel.

It was great staying in a small, old building so close to Nan Luogu Xiang. We hadn't read about that street, but it was a pleasant surprise to see so many cafes, bars and restaurants. The staff, especially the boss, were very helpful, too.
The drains in the bathroom, especially the bathtub, didn't work very well at all. Breakfast sometimes finished a bit earlier than it was meant to and it was a little overpriced for what it was.
Restaurant Tip : Near Qianhai Lake, which is about a fifteen minute walk away, there is a branch of Quanjude, the Beijing duck restaurant, that is not in the guidebooks. The duck was excellent; there was a live performance; and we felt the atmosphere was great.

This was a lovely hotel on a quiet hutong, near shops and restaurants. I was looking for a place that let me and my family feel like we were in China, and this hotel was great!
The staff at the desk were often not actually very helpful.
In the midst of the heat wave (high 90s) the air conditioning did not keep the room very cool. It helped, but was just barely adequate.
My family and I liked this hotel very much -- in fact we returned to it after traveling in other areas of China. The rooms were a bit small when an extra bed was added for our 11 year old son, but adequate. We liked the feel and style of the hotel very much and the neighborhood was lovely.
The one challenge is that you have to walk out to the street to take a taxi. This was usually quite easy. But the couple of times that the staff wrote out the names of where we were going in Chinese, the driver didn't understand the directions and I had to return to the hotel for more information. In addition, when we were leaving, we were told that unless I had booked in advance, they couldn't get a taxi to come into the hotel and pick us up with our luggage. The only solution was for me and my 11 year old son to carry our luggage out to the street ourselves. They were unwilling to either help us carry it or find a taxi for us. So we left feeling somewhat frustrated. That said, if I was going back to Beijing, I would probably stay here again. But if you want a hotel with a front desk that can really help you figure out how to get around and see things, this is not the place.

- Great location in the hutong area of Beijing
- Beautiful rooms and a courtyard
- Very clean and full of ammenities, even hot tea
- Friendly and helpful staff
- Some spoke English very well, most were okay.
- The hotel is very hard to find, our cab driver didn't have a clue where the hutong it's on was.
- The front desk staff seemed a bit disorganized as far as arranging trips and cars went. This could have been due to a language barrier.
- My mother thought the beds were hard :/ I thought they were fine.
Our stay at the Lu Song Yuan hotel was excellent was for the most part. The hotel was beautiful and decorated in a traditional Chinese style. The courtyard was great too. Our rooms were comfortable, clean and had everything we needed in them (ammenities, extra blankets, pillows, etc.) The staff was friendly and helpful and they all spoke some English, although some were much better than others. Housekeeping was fantastic and even gave us hot tea every day when they cleaned our room.
Our only problem was when we booked a trip to the Great Wall via the front desk and they booked it for the wrong day and we ended up wasting an hour waiting in the lobby even though we kept asking about the status of our trip. Not a big deal (we went the next day) but they seemed a bit disorganized. They apoligized and our trip the next day was excellent. I also noticed a few people who booked cars via the front desk had trouble (with times) as well.
Travel tip : - The internet in China is crap. Pretty slow and lots of sites are blocked (Facebook).
- We bought bottled water from the store accross the street and it was not sealed. They had just refilled old bottles with water from an unknown source. Ew.
- If you walk out the front door or the hotel and turn left you'll come to a lovely little main drag in the heart of the hutong. It has many great places to eat and shop. The Indian restaurant and Beijing Hostel were both great and cheap places to eat.

good location, central, close to touristically relevant spots as well as restaurants, bars, shops in walkable distance; friendly english speaking staff, always helpful, but never bothering or disturbing; wonderful interior design, even with a little museum like part with a few exhibits (some old fashioned tools etc.). room facilities in good shape, room also nicely designed
room pretty small (318)
breakfast ok, but not particularly good (but other options walkable within minutes).
cleanliness: toilet paper flushing not allowed - thats ok in this environment with probably old pipes. some extra waste bags and an on-demand removal service or some bin would be even better, to avoid having that dirty toilet paper in the small room till next morning.
difficult to find: taxi driver didnt find the place - maybe send a really good map per email together with booking confirmation
altogether a very beautiful hotel for people who enjoy to stay in a nice place in a central area without taking care for the room size

the staff and the quaintness of the hotel and the price
old style so can be cold in winter
the staff are always pleasant but i love the way you feel you have gone back in time in this hotel - the architecture of old. it has so much character you feel you have gone back in time.
Sightseeing/Attractions Tip : near the forbidden city.

Location was nice and quiet after the "overwhelmingness" of Beijing. It felt authentic as opposed to the modern hotels in the city.
Bathroom was very, very small. Cab drivers weren't sure of location even after giving them a card from the hotel in Chinese.
This hotel captures the feeling of what it might have been like to live in Beijing before it became a sprawling city of anonymous high rise buildings. There is a convenient store right across the street - good for water, beer etc. and excellent yogurt! Staff was very helpful and arranged a cab driver to the Great Wall at a reasonable rate. Breakfast not very good.
Hotel Feature Tip : Free internet access in a charming setting!

Clean, English speaking staff, comfortable, good location.
Hard for cab driver to find, beds are very very hard compared to US standards, but that seems to be common to most China Hotels.
We found this to be a very nice hotel to give you a good feel for the hutongs. Clean, safe, quiet area. Walking distance to small shopping area and Bei hai park.
Travel tip : Did not eat at hotel be review demanded a response before I was able to post review.

very nice and charming hotel in a very quiet distric, excellent service
This is my favourte place in Beijing now for the last four-five years. I like the hotel, its location, its typical chinese decoration, peacefull, quiet. Efficient service. Located in a very attractive and central disctrict, itis both convenient for tourism and for business. I appreciate the breakfast in the courtyard when the weatherr permits it.

good price, old world feel
no hot water, no heating (even in february when it was freezing).
i like to stay at this hotel as it is in a perfect area for business meetings, the price is very good but sometimes they will put me in a room without windows and on this trip unfortunately they had no hot water or heating. i will now have to look for somewhere else to stay on my next visit to beijing, which is a sad thing to have to do.

Classic furnishings and decor
Comfortable room and bath
Good location, yet a quiet neighborhood
Service at reception desk not particularly helpful
Breakfast is pretty unappealing
Water pressure and temperature in the shower was sometimes erratic
Lu Song Yuan is within walking distance of the Forbidden City and just around the corner from a lively pedestrian street with bars and restaurants, yet it is located in a historic courtyard building in a quiet hutong that gives a sense of an older, calmer era in Beijing's history.
Restaurant Tip : There's an amazing Sichuan restaurant just a few steps away, and great street food available in the busy street at the end of the hutong.
