Raffles is a fantastic old building which just can't be duplicated in a new hotel

Personally wouldn't rave about the Japanese retaurant within the hotel

Raffles Beijing is a fantastic renovated older building. The Landmark rooms are an excellent size - more like a mini suite - wonderfully laid out. The Aussie guest relations manager John was very helpful and pointed out some great parts of the city to us. Staff are all very helpful and friendly. The food at the cafe is great and the Writers bar has an wonderful ambience and service

We especially liked the central location and nearness of the metro stop which made getting around town quick and cheap. The hotel pool and gymnasium were the perfect oasis after a long day.

Nothing really

The Raffles is every bit as good as it's reputation. It's friendly and professional staff make you feel very welcome in a natural, comfortable way. We received numerous sight seeing and shopping tips from them and these all proved to be accurate and authentic. The hotel's central location is a big bonus as is the metro stop on the corner. Although it is always full, it is the fastest and cheapest way to get around this very busy city. We received a good advance booking rate for our stay and would recommend the hotel to anyone looking for quality at a fair price.

Old world charm in a great location and with good service.

Some of the technical services such as A/C or heating or plumbing sometimes have a problem at each visit but the staff does do its best to repair it.

This is my favourite hotel in Beijing. I like the location, the style, the service, and I sincerely feel at home here. The extra services are expensive in the hotel, but you are steps away from the best shopping and restaurants of Beijing. The staff is absolutely great. I recommend the Raffles to anyone visiting Beijing.

Grand Dowagess of Peking..... Also the resident ambassador John Spooner.

Non descript foyer. Obviously looks just like an annexe of the bigger Beijing hotel next door.

Central location practically on tiananmen Sq close to forbidden city, mausoleum, exhibition centre. Review the ranks of bourgeoisie, peasants and CCP cadres as they march to the tune of the high pitched megaphone/ airhorn and the banner of the tour flag. Impeccable service and huge room suites. Verily, a touch of capitalist decadence for those accustomed to soft living....

Sightseeing/Attractions Tip : Narrow garden links Tiananmen Sq with Raffles; simply a divine escape from the massed proleteriat.

Coveniently situated for Tiannman square and the Forbidden City.

Dismal layout and design of the restaurant also much walking to reach rooms and facilities.

A clean and efficient approach by all staff members. Lacked a travel office and gift shop all arrangements for travel/tours had to be made via the concierge who the contacted the outside parties - hence tours ended up on the expensive side. Behind the hotel were shopping areas that catered for one's general needs and restaurants.

Travel tip : beware Tea Houses astronomically expensivea

Location, Staff and wonderfull colonial buliding

Taxi not sure where to take you back to hotel

Just stayed in the Raffles Bejing hotel on Honeymoon. Recommend to saty in Landmark Rooms in the old building. Very oppulent and stylish. Old style meets modern world. Had a huge balcony next to the drawing room overlooking the Avenue outside. Watched the world go buy. Great location within walking distance of Tienamen Sq and Fordidden City. Breakfast at the hotel will set you up for the day well worth it, but they do stop exactly at 10:30am

Travel tip : Shopping just around the corner

Fantastic room (one of the most comfortable and tasteful I experienced in a five star hotel); great location; very thorough daily room service; complementary internett connection; rich breakfast buffet (I did not try the other restaurants since there are so many good and much cheaper restaurants in the area of the hotel)

The minibar is very well equipped but ridiculously expensive (a little bag with nuts costs like RMB 60, small bottles with alcoholic drinks RMB 70-90, Sprite / Cola around 60 RMB (in the shop around the corner you get it for 4 RMB); so I think not many people are actually using the minibar. Service at the front desk is good but somewhat "minimalistic"

Rooms: Large luxurious rooms of very high standard (was staying in a superior executive room); living room was tastefully decorated and with sofa and large desk (complementary fast internett connection), ideal if one has to work during one's stay; sleeping room with huge king-size bed and large LCD television, all lights, air-conditioning, etc. can be controlled from a control panel next to the bed. Beautifully marbled bathroom was divided in three separate parts, toilet/bathtub, shower, area with two sinks; rooms are serviced twice the day. The breakfast buffet was very good and had a large selection of Western and Chinese food. The hotel is located in the center of Beijing and a good point of departure for sightseeing; subway station only one minute away. All in all a very satisfactory stay and the five stars are deserved; service is good but could still be improved and personalized somewhat.

Hotel Feature Tip : Avoid the minibar :-)

Staff are fantastic, proximity to Tianamen Square and the Forbidden City.

Taxis are problematic to aquire, due to location

Check in very fast and good, nothing too much trouble. Shows and trips booked there without problem. After Singapore it lacked the opulence, grandeur and location. Business rooms designed as a suite were spacious and well fitted with Raffles touches. Happy hour in the bar makes the drinks expensive after happy hour they are frankly ridiculous, more than you would pay in Raffles Singapore and London prices. Their signature restaurant 'Jaan' we found overpriced and exorbitantly expensive, breakfast was ok.

Hotel Feature Tip : Visit the Grand Hyatt just left of the hotel on the main road, 1 block. Try 'Made in china' restaurant's version of Beijing Duck, arguably first or second in the country - we'd say 1st, just remember to book a half or whole in advance. They sell out and we saw the disappointed faces! Their Red Moon Bar is interesting too, also expensive.

excellent location, beautiful decor, helpful staff

it can at time require a bit of time to get a cab from the hotel

The hotel is beautifully appointed: The Business Room in which we stayed is in fact a suite consisting of entree, sitting room and bedroom with a very spacious bathroom with separate toilet and bathtub and shower areas. This section of the hotel is in the building at the back of the main building. The buffet breakfast in the coffee shop on the main floor is excellent and serves a very wide selection of western and asian dishes (including a very good curry lhaksa, for those with who like this Singapore/Malaysian noodle dish to start their day.

Hotel Feature Tip : Give yourself a bit of time if you need a taxi: It may take a few more minutes than to be expected in a hotel of this level, due to the fact that many buildings in the immediate area are government buildings and cab drivers cannot stop in the street to pick up clients, thus, the hotel needs to phone for a cab as there is no waiting taxi line outside.

location, staff attention to detail

From the moment we arrived you are made to feel part of the Raffles family. Check-in was streamlined and they made every effort to give us a room even though we had arrived very early in the morning and gave us welcome drink while they finished our room. Staff attention to detail is wonderful and the buffet breakfast delicious. Highly recommend this hotel. Its the best location in Beijing so close the Forbidden city

Large comfortable room, well appointed, grand feel.

Service not up to the standard of other top hotels in Beijing -- seems to be run for the benefit of staff convenience rather than guests.

This is a well located hotel, near the Forbidden City, galleries, shops and transport to business meetings. A very grand and comfortable feel. Unfortunately let down by poor service from many staff (who seems to run the place for their benefit rather than for guests) and a restaurant that is well below the quality of its peers. Recommended for travellers who want to experience "old Beijing", but there are better offerings for business travellers in Beijing.

A true 5 star hotel, excellent service, keen on details, love it and will come back again.

None

The hotel is very special in terms of both it's Victorian architecture and uncountable VIPs stays, filled with historic atmosphere yet absolutely well-maintained. I love the different carpet with very beautiful patterns on each floor. There is a reading room I enjoyed a lot. You can spend quite time reading or watch TV. The staff treated their residents with great services and confidence.

Hotel Feature Tip : The shops in the hotels always displayed Certain Chinese art and treasures. You can spend a whole afternoon just browsing inside the hotel.

location 5 minutes walk from the Forbidden City Elegant historical architecture and large rooms Warm welcome with guest PR officer, John, makes one feel very special.

Perhaps in the casual restaurant some dishes like the pasta were disappointing.

The elegance of Raffle's century old architecture matches the grandeur of Beijing and the rows of chandeliers twinkling among the high arches of the lobby are on a scale worthy of this great city. The warmth of the welcome and the large comfortable rooms make Raffles feel more and more like home after each expedition in the city.

Sightseeing/Attractions Tip : Behind the lovely traditional wall in the block to the right of Raffles are lovely Chinese restaurants in this pudong area of the city

Beautiful, huge rooms, excellent staff

no wireless so have to keep the computer at the desk to use internet

This hotel is beautiful, a true 5-star luxury hotel in Beijing. The staff was fabulous, very kind and helpful. The location is amazing, too. Walking distance to the shopping district and Tianannmen Square. There is even a 3K running route mapped out for your workout. Since it was so smoggy outside, I worked out at the hotel gym which was well equipped with weights, treadmills and even spinning cycles. My room was huge, with a flat screen TV and lots of English language channels. I would definately stay here again.

Restaurant Tip : The Peking Duck restaurant on the nearby shopping street is excellent. Even if you are alone, as I was, you will have an amazing experience and a delicious dinner!

- Great Location - Attentive & professional service staff - Good products - Luxurious furnishings - Elegant comfortable setting

- Taxis usually find it harder to stop at the hotel front lobby, and prefer to drop off at Wangfujing which is at the Beijing Hotel's side.

We had a wonderful time at the Raffles Beijing which was designed in a colonial style, and staffed by professional and attentive staff. The hotel location is excellent and you can walk to Wangfujing street where the buzz is. There is even a link to Beijing Hotel so in winter, when I went, it was a lifesaver not to have to walk in the cold! The rooms, even the deluxe ones are of a good size, and exceedingly comfortable. ! I like that it is classy and luxe but not in a intimidating or imposing manner. Very comfortable experience staying at this hotel.

Hotel Feature Tip : At breakfast, you can ask for chinese tea!
