Minshan Hotel, Chengdu

Minshan hotel has a nice lobby with a conveniently situated cafe and a nice outdoor seating area with a swimming pool of reasonable dimensions. Although prices are reasonable in the cafe, the menu is limited. Although Agoda had booked me into one of the refurbished rooms, I was given an 'old' room which although clean looked distinctly run down. The carpet was really dirty. The room was very warm and the aircon did little to lower the temperature. Following Chinese custom the beds were really hard, but with nice spotlessly clean covers and pillows. Minibar prices were quite low, but again there were only a few softdrinks, water and beers. The hotel entrance is guarded by barriers and taxis prefer to drop passengers off on the street corner rather than at the entrance, meaning you have to lug your suitcase across the barriers and up the ramp to the entrance. Although service from the check in counter and restaurant staff was adequate it comes without a smile in slow and limited English. Breakfast offered a range of Chinese cooking with some European and American elements. Table seating was informal with people sharing a number long tables in addition to some two or four seater tables. Conclusion: an adequate hotel with is not competitively priced.
