Good Old Hotel
Big room, location, pool
This hotel is impress me a lot, big spacious room, complete amenities, and city center location. Seems old but very well maintained, clean and smells good. The complex is very big, also with the huge pool.

Dong Fang Hotel - Would be the best in Guangzhou
Everything was of the highest standard possible at this hotel. It is too difficult to separate into the 3 best things.
Excellent hotel. The best we have seen anywhere.

Nice rooms, great pool!
the pool was great, the rooms were clean, the location was convenient
This hotel was great in both comfort and value! I stayed in a business room which was very large for under $100 a night. The beds were firm, as is expected at a Chinese hotel, but had a pillow top bed spread which softened the effects of the firm mattress. You had your choice of several different pillows as well, which was a nice touch. The bathroom area was very nice. A newly furnished bathtub and separate shower area. Everything seemed clean and fresh. The highlight, however, was the amazing swimming pool. It was massive and surrounded by beautiful grounds. There were several massage jets to use in various parts of the pool which never seemed crowded. Best of all... it is open until 10:30pm! In my experience, most pools in Chinese hotels close much earlier so you never get a chance to use them if you go out for the day. They do have a weird policy of making you check into the pool at a downstairs reception area (a bit confusing if you don't speak Chinese). But I suppose it was their way of making sure only guests used the pool, which I can appreciate. One draw back was that there were no restaurants in the area. Just a McDonalds and a Starbucks next door. Its a ten minute taxi ride to Beijing Road where you can find pretty much anything to eat. Overall, its a great value for a 5 star hotel. I would say, however, it does have the feel more like a 4 star hotel as I didn't get the feeling that the staff would bend over backwards to help you out, like they would in a 5 star.
