Location. Price/Quality. Clean Rooms.
None that I can think of if you don't want to start nagging...
This hotel is really located at the border between the oasis of peace that the Sha Mian Island (which is very small) offers and the craziness of the extremely busy city of Guangzhou. There's a great Thai restaurant just a bit further down the street. We never tried the hotel restaurant though...
The room we had was in the main building and I have to say: very clean. Housekeeping came twice a day: once to clean your room, change your towels, etc... and the second time somewhere in the early evening: to wish you goodnight with a little card on your pillow. The pool is pretty small and every 10th of the month, it gets cleaned.
The location is also ideal, 'cause you escape from the busy city whenever you get back to the hotel. Taxis to the big shopping area of Tian He cost you about 35RMB max, which comes down to approx. 3.5EUR, so very cheap. Buses are also a possibility (costs you 2RMB or approx. 0.2EUR), but you have to know the language as the bus plans are not easy to figure out. Taxis are much easier and there's no hassle, the meter leaves no room for discussion.
If you're a shopping addict: go and see Tian He area. There are at least 4 major shopping malls (Grandview, Tee Mall, etc...) that have approx. 7 floors each (and air conditioning :-) ). There's so much to tell about this city !
But to come down to the hotel: it's really worth it. The staff is really friendly, beds are good, the rooms are clean and there's a Starbucks just around the corner ! Great deal !
Restaurant Tip : Starbucks, Thai restaurant called "Cow and Bridge".

1. Location
2. Helpful staff
3. Clean rooms and nice sheets
4. Good Dim Sum
This hotel is located on Shamian Island, where the US embassy is. Its in a very old part of GZ but well preserved and clean. Its nice to walk on the streets during the day and at night.
Hotel is taken care of properly and the service is good whilst the rooms are cleaned properly. Cabs are hailed for you and the cab car numbers duly noted in case of any emergencies.
The hotel is divided into the new wing and old wing. Both wings are fine to stay in, do try the old wing. The new wing is known as the East Wing.
Restaurant Tip : On Shamian Island, there is a restaurant called "Lan Kwai Fong" which serves very good chinese tea. Try it.

- Nice room.
- Near 7-11 and restaurant.
- Located inside the city, can go to main shopping streets.
This is a 4 stars hotel that earned it.
The room is nice and you are on the river bank with the good surroundings area.

A great location near the water and surrounded by trees.
Perhaps a bit far for people using public transport
This was my first time to Guangzhou and I loved it. As a business traveller, I thought the hotel's location was perfect to escape the traffic and chaos. I found a fantastic Italian restaurant just around the corner. The rooms in the hotel weren't big, but fine for a short stay.
Restaurant Tip : A great Italian restaurant around the corner. Very picturesque!

Well worth a visit for those who want friendly staff and comfortable accommodation at a reasonable cost. Just the setting of Shamian area makes it worth trying.
Restaurant Tip : Surrounding restaurants and bars can be expensive as Shamian is a tourist area. Short walk will take you to cheaper parts of the city.

The Victory Hotel is not in the centre of the city, but only a short cab ride away. It is in a very nice part of Guangzhou. At night walk the streets and take in the beautiful parks, architecture, statues, and best of all, the people. I will be staying at the Victory again for sue!
Restaurant Tip : There is a great Thai restaurant just around the corner of the west building. A must visit for lunch and dinner as the food is absolutely beautiful.

The western style breakfast buffet was moderate.
Hotel Feature Tip : Business center hours are 8am to midnight. They will also hold mail that comes to the hotel (not the front desk), so pick this up when they are open.

Location, quiet tourist area, many shops and restaurants around.
Bathroom needs update. Some cigarette butts on the floor.
Hotel perfectly located for my needs: for business, shopping and dining. Only Starbucks in area just behind the corner, SUBWAY for fast food. A few restaurants in area (some with tables just above Pearl River), few gift shops with traditional Chinese souvenirs. Clean bed, clean room. Bathroom needs some updates but is OK. Will stay again.

Helpful staff with very good English. Good location. Very nice, clean rooms.
Breakfast buffet a bit over priced at 55RMB per person (Nov20, 2008)
When we arrived initially to check in (9:30 in the morning), they said we could wait 20 minutes and they would have a room ready. We decided to check our luggage, wander the streets of Guangzhou and return later. We did at around 5pm, went to our room to find two twin beds. We asked for another room and they gave us a king size bed / mini suite. Great!! The hotel was quiet and an all-around great place to stay.
