Every time an Agoda customer checks out of a hotel we send them an email asking them to write a review of their stay. This is the only way reviews can be submitted. Every review must then be approved by our content team before being posted on the Agoda website. Therefore, unlike many other travel sites, ALL Agoda reviews are certified and genuine.
We want you to pay the lowest possible rate for your room. - Excellent service
- Big rooms
- Great eating options especially the Thai restaurant
- Perhaps a little away from the city centre, although that wasn't necessarily a bad thing!
We spent 3 nights at the Shangrila recently. The hotel is located about 25 minutes by taxi from the Guangzhou East Station, but as we discovered later, is equally convenient to reach by the sub-way system. Shangrila operates shuttle buses to and from the Station as well, which is highly recommended since most local Taxi drivers are unable to interact in English.
On checking in at the Hotel, the pleasant staff instantly upgraded us to their deluxe river view room. The rooms are very spacious and offer splendid views of the Pearl River. By way of leisure, the Hotel offers 2 swimming pools (outdoor and indoor), a tennis court, a well equipped gym and the Chi spa. Additionally, the hotel alsooffers a well maincured lawn for a nice casual stroll.
The hotel offers excellent food options as well ranging from an Asian buffet, to Italian, Cantonese and Thai.
We had a great time at the Shangrila, and would definitely want to stay there on our next visit to Guangzhou.
Sightseeing/Attractions Tip : The Chimelong Safari Park was the highlight of our tour. It is about 25-30 minutes taxi ride from the Hotel and offers a plethora of entertainment options like the Safari, amusement park, water park and circus among others

A very comfortable, modern hotel, with most of the features one expects of a Shangri-la.
Poor location and not really geared for the holiday visitor. This is a business man's hotel.
Having stayed in a number of Shangri-la hotels throughout Asia, I was interested to see how the new Guangzhou Shangri-la would measure up.
The hotel is a very modern and clean design, but does lack the character of some of the older hotels in the chain. The rooms are excellent and the facilities, swimming pools, gymnasium etc are all top drawer. Unfortunately, the standard of staff service that I have been accustomed to in Malaysia, Thailand and the Philippines was not in the same league. Moreover, the standard of food in the buffet restaurant, although adequate, lacked the regional variety and freshness that I have seen elsewhere.
The hotel has a Chi Spa, as do most of the Shangri-las at which I have stayed. Unfortunately, we did not partake as the prices were exorbitant - well in excess of other Chi Spas I have used.
We spent some time in the lobby lounge, which provided an excellent afternoon tea, but was unfortunately soul-less.
The main disappointment was the hotel's location, which is in the middle of the Exhibition Park on the south west side of the city. It is approximately 40 minutes by train to the centre.
If you are going to Guangzhou on business, then look no further, this is an excellent hotel. If you are having a short holiday break, find somewhere closer to town.
Hotel Feature Tip : Try the afternoon tea in the lobby - a great selection of teas and cakes.

Service, rooms very good, general amenities excellent
Location is little far out from the central business district
The staff were extremely helpful and went out of their way to assist you. The garden was lovely and very pleasant to walk around, the pool areas both indoor and outdoor were excellent - they looked great and were very inviting. The Gym was well equipped.
Room service was very good. The room service staff were excellent as were the various restaurant staff. I would well recommend a stay at the Shangri La. It is indeed a five star hotel.

Service,amenities,decor,garden setting
Unfortunately it is quite a distance from the downtown business centre. However, if one comes for the Trade Fair the location is absolutely ideal.Smoking in the hotel should not be permitted in any public area.
Ifound the staff very obliging and helpful, even though english is not their first language they always attempted to assist in every way possible.
Decor is excellent, pool indoor and outdoor is excellent, gymnasium well equipped, restaurants good. I have no hesitation in recommending this hotel.

Location, close to the Canton Fair expo.
Superb views from all sides of the hotel.
Very practical mini market @ hotel premises.
Great service from all staff.
nothing around except Canton fair expo.
Metro exit not very close to hotel.
Reception was not very discreet in trying to push sell room upgrades.
No wifi, very unusual & unpleasent when relying on Iphone & Blackberry
When checking into the Shangri La you cannot help not having very high expectations. In many ways this Guangzhou establishment meets them, however if you are not attending the Canton Fair this hotel is still in the middle of nowhere. (not for long by the amount of new developments still being built around). Also when compared to other Shangri La's around the Asia it seems a bit sterile. I enjoyed my stay there & would stay again but only during the fair.
Nightlife Tip : Hotel should have more entertainment in the evenings since it is in a remote location
