The resort has its own private beach. However, since it locates a bit far away from the beach, you need to walk around 100m to get there and the sea view is not good as other hotels. The pool is relatively small. Actually the lake view villa should be the best choice in this hotel.
Reasonable room rate, good housekeeping
Performance of front desk and cashier staff are inefficient

This is a small but very nice resort, even though it was fully booked you did not feel that it was over crowded, the service was good and we enjoyed free trips arranged by the Hotel. The only negative thing I can say is that the pool was small compared to the resorts around it.
The service was good.
It was very small compared to the other resorts around it.
- Sightseeing/Attractions Tip : Try the free shuttle arranged by the hotel.

While in Sanya, we stayed at three hotels -- The Holiday Inn Sanya Bay, the Sunny Sanya Family in at Dadonghai, and the Universal Resort at Yalong Bay. After booking, I was most worried about the state of the Universal Resort. We booked a Deluxe Suite, and the cost was so low (a total of just over 600 RMB per night) that I was sure one of the following was true:
(1) There was a mistake in the pricing, and we would be told of the error on checking in
(2) The hotel was under renovation and was going to be a noisy, dusty nightmare
(3) The room would be in horrible shape and would be overlooking a parking lot or trash dump.
(4) The new hotel (The Aegean Conifer, I believe) would block the view and access to the beach.
(5) Agoda was a scam
To my surprise, everything was great. On check-in, they had all our information and the room keys already set aside for us. The room (rooms, I should say -- it was a two-room suite) was wonderful. There were two clean rooms with a TV in each room and a balcony off of each room. We had a view of the mountain, lake, and sea from each balcony. The service was good, and we had quick response to the one problem we encountered -- water leaking from the air conditioning vent. There was a stain on one part of the carpet, but that was minor. The breakfast was good. The beach, although across the street, was quick and easy to access. Their beach chairs had no cushions, but in light of the other benefits of the hotel, this was an insignificant annoyance.
Oh, we also used the travel service located in the hotel and got great prices on airline tickets -- lower than I had found online.
This was my first time to use Agoda and to stay at the Universal Resort, and so started out a little worried about both. In the end, I was very satisfied with both, and would use both again.
great price, location, cleanliness, travel service in the hotel, and overall service
no cushions on lounge chairs, the bathroom was nice but nothing special, the checkout was frantic (too few staff handling the people checking out at the last minute)
- Nightlife Tip : The shopping arcade down the street and across from the Crown Plaza hotel had a great live band that started playing at 8pm. Unfortunately, we only stumbled on it the night we had to leave.
