Great location to be around West Lake area.
It is not near anything else. Nearest shopping area is a Taxi ride.
Has two wings. A good one and a bad one. Please confirm where are you going to be put up on arrival.
Graet expectations from this hotel as per the website. The good wing is very good and a golf cart ride away from the bad wing. Both wings have check in and payment facilities. They have also divided the restaurants in both wings. The old wing has the furniture imported from Shangrila Hong Kong in the eighty's. AS I entered the room I had a flash back of my stay at Shangrila HK in 1982.The rooms are neat and clean.
Shopping Tip : 15 minutes from the hotel takes you to a pedestrian market. Full of craftsman and handicrafts of China. Interesting visit.

The hotel is at a great location, but for the price you pay, you don't get the service. The staff is not concerned about guests problems.

The Shangri la is a sprawling grand hotel, almost two hotels in one, in luxurious Chinese governmental style in a delightful setting. It was the first big international hotel to work with the state in Hangzhou ( or so I believe). It is away across the water on the other side of the broken bridge, with the city out of sight. It is near the causeway across the lake and has jetties for boatrides.
The Shangri la is an older hotel and its restaurants' presentation fits the idiom. The food is good. A wood fired pizza oven in a restaurant that opens beyond 9pm on this side of the lake is pleasing. The lunch buffet at the chinese restaurant offers a great range of dishes that those acquainted with how to juxtapose dishes will appreciate. Light and delicate steamed pumpkin cakes amidst savoury dumplings can be challenging for newbies to China.
the Shangri la has a sports centre within its leafy grounds -I didn't try pool but I did have a v good traditional massage.
Staff at were efficient. You may find individuals who have yet to master international hospitality polish and others whose language skills render them a little abrupt but I came across some particularly helpful staff.
Sightseeing/Attractions Tip : Go to Longjing. Hillside tea plantations about a 20 min taxi ride from the lake. If you visit the tea museum - which is good if it's raining, walk on past into the village and have lunch at a local family restaurant. Hangzhou people come for the day and take a room to eat, drink tea and play mahjong. The tv may be playing but the chicken soup is superb. A whole bird in rich liquid, so tender you can cut the chicken with a spoon. Don't be put off by head or feet. Just leave them at the bottom and remember your great great grandparents who undoubtedly cooked the whole carcass for full nutrition. Actually feet have a great texture. I'll admit that nibbling the softly gelatinous bits from the digits is an acquired taste, but its a taste I've acquired after seven years in China! Seriously though, the soup is great - gee tang. Good egg plant too - 'chair tsir'.
