Economic Trade Hotel, Kunming

I enjoyed my stay at the hotel. The staff was very friendly. Lots of Chinese business travelers and one wedding. My room was clean, with tub and a English movie station. The location is good, near the zoo (not special), shopping and the best temple in town. I'd stay there again.

My wife and i enjoyed our stay at the Econmic Tade Hotel. Right from the moment we entered we felt comfortable. The receptionists were friendly and even if they were not sure with English, they always called for someone who did. Which we greatly appreciated, as most questions were speedily answered. Once in our room we were very pleased with the overall quality. Maybe a little dated but it was full of freebies and helpful information. The bed size was on the large and there were any amount of toiletries in the bathroom, even a set of weighing scales. We ate at the hotel as well & the food was excellent with massive portion sizes. Although, i had to go downstairs and buy a bottle of coke from the shop, because the restaurant had none. Not the end of the world by any means. All in all, our stay was very successful, so much so that we booked to stay again a week later.

One of the cheapest hotels in Kunming. Location is reasonably central and a 20min walk to the Green Lake. Caters for mainly Chinese business men with very few tourists. First night was put in a room which was quite dark and dusty with no hot water. Was moved to a different room which was a little brighter, clean, with hot water and internet access (for 15rmb a day). Internet access was via lan and reasonable fast and reliable. Had breakfast in the hotel each day and was a little annoyed that people smoking over the buffet was not better policed. Ash in food is not the same as cracked pepper. Dinner in the hotel is a bit of a rip-off but to be expected for a hotel restaurant. Cost 69rmb and basically the same sort of buffet as the breakfast with a few extra dishes.
