Sakura Hotel, Kunming

this was our second stay at Sakura. the staff was helpful in resoving a problem with our booking. good Thai restaurant on top floor with nice views. the room was ok but in need of attention (some lights not working, leaking tap, old furnishings etc). was clean but quite tired

We found the hotel staff among the most helpful of all those we came across in China and were quite impressed by the generous varied breackfast buffet. The hotel staff was very helpful and helped us to book our onward bus journey. The hotel would need some serious updating it was however quite clean and with the good agoda discount we think we had a great value for our money. The hotel is also quite centrally located, the Thai restaurant on the top floor is quite good also.

Sakura Hotel is located in the heart of the city and only 30 minutes by taxi form the airport. If you are a budget conscious traveller but are not too fussy about room decorations then this is an adequate hotel. The room amenities could use an upgrade but otherwise it is a pleasant hotel. The breakfast buffet was a little shy on variety but they do provide a simple choice of traditional Western and Chinese style breakfast. I always like to do a bit of an exercise work out while I am on the road but there was nothing available. Perhaps the best and most rewarding experience was the in room massage. The staff were very pleasant and provided a very relaxing massage after a long day of meetings. The Thai restaurant located on the top of the hotel is a good dining establishment and is suitable to invite guests and have a business meeting.

On arrival we were given a room that needed refurbishment. I asked for a better room and had to pay a daily supplement to get it. Having said this, the staff are very helpful and friendly and the location is great for getting around the city.

Before this hotel was Holiday Inn. Like most international branded hotels taken over by local? management the service remains the same while the hardware (room furniture, painting works etc) is not well maintained. This was very well visible on the changing room/shower of the swimming pool. But for the price paid and for what you get this hotel is good value for money. Close to the city center (around 15 minutes on foot; 3 minutes by taxi) and not far from the green lake (45min on foot; 10-15 min by taxi). For my next visit I would choose this hotel again although I would ask for a room with sufficient water pressure.

Things are not particularly impressed. Safe anyway. Did not complain. Feel stress and accommodation. However, in the sense of Japan considering "such a man the way I am happy" to have a say, and dare "rather good" representation.
