Chose this hotel to have easy access to a nice sandy beach based on other reviews after having stayed at Yalong Bay previously (Mandarin Oriental) and being disappointed with the (rocky) beach.
Beach access is easy across a small road with little traffic and beach itself was good and not crowded. Hotel was functional and clean but not as luxurious as other hotels at Sanya Bay such as Pullman or Howard Johnson, but these hotels are on the crowded Sanya Bay Road strip which makes the beach much less accessible. Was pleasantly surprised that the hotel did not feel that crowded despite the fact there was a conference and a group wedding (15 couples) tour taking place while we were there.
Breakfast buffet was passable but not a highlight. Original mountain view (i.e. facing the road and airport) had construction taking place outside but fortunately we were upgraded to a beach view suite when we complained. Rooms are functional. Was given a long cable on the second night to make up for the lack of in-room wifi which really needs to be upgraded.
Gym was ok for a quick workout. Staff were friendly, polite and helpful.
Travel tip:
If you just want to spend time at a nice, quiet and easily accessible sandy beach that is near the airport (10-15 min drive), this is a good choice and offers good value. Downside is that this is not a luxury hotel so if you're going to spend more time at the hotel or pool and not the beach, there are better choices.

Excellent stay with great facilities

Being Danish and travelling in China, we did expect a huge language barrier, but was positively surprised. The staff at the hotel are generally very helpfull and make an effort to overcome potential language barriers. The hotel rooms are spacious and up to standard, the pool area is excellent and the beach is lovely.
The hotel lacks proper wifi connection. Your only option is to go to the hotel lobby where the connection is very slow.

Drive forward from the Sanya airport until you see the entrance of Lu Neng real estate (big complex) on right side (about 5 minutes driving), then turn right and drive forward for another 5 minutes, you will see Holiday Inn Sanya Bay Resort on left side. Hotel is located on Haipo Tourist Zone, Sanya Bay Road. Drive from Haikou city through East line Highway, while arriving sanya on Yingbin Road,turn right to Fenghuang Road,then turn left to Sanya Bay Road, go ahead to arrive Holiday Inn Resort Sanya Bay
