It is an old but fine hotel The staff don´t give you proper information and try to attract the guests to the expensive activities arranged by the hotel.
Air condition in our room didn´t work well.
I was not handed the last receipt when I checked out. Astor House Hotel has had a nice view once upon time over the river but not any more. It is a fine hotel but overpriced. Every thing in the hotel is unreasonably expensive. We didn´t even get water which includes in any hotel service. And internet was unlike many hotels in China not free and quite expensive.
Sightseeing/Attractions Tip : The famous Nanjing Road is about 20 minutes walk from this hotel

Very good location, kind personnel, everything you need in a room. I ordered an ordinary room, but they offered me Business Room , but it includes breakfest, twice bigger room than what I ordered, free Internet, fax, HBO, free coffee 24H and juices and fruits, and a dedicated consierge on the floor sitting there all the time day and night! Awsome!
Sightseeing/Attractions Tip : From Astor you can get to almost any location by taxi for only 12 RMB or a liitle more. If you want to get to Pudong are it is a little more expensive, but after they finish new metro lines and a couple of new tunnels below river it will be excellent location in Shanghai.

Location, on bund near most tourist sites, very easy access. automobile horns, should have signs on to limit horns. Softer mattresses or mattress pads. My wife and I really enjoyed our stay at the Astor House Hotel in Shanghai, China.
The service from all the staff was excellent and we were cared for very well. All of our requests were promptly attended to with upmost courtesy. The breakfast buffet was also very good with both western and chinese foods.
Restaurant Tip : Resturants: M on the Bund and The Seagull both have excellent views of the river and Pudong.
