The Richard's Restaurant in the baroque style has a long history, which was special in Shanghai. The restaurant has many chefs experienced in cooking not only Shanghai cuisine but also many other foods. The restaurant has a grand hall to arrange 22 feast tables and seven compartments, which are the perfect place for business dinner, gatherings, weddings and birthday parties. The Richard's Bar contains the nostalgic flavour and is good for tea-tasting and meeting friends. Spacious, comfortable rooms available
Brilliant athmosphere
Nice staff We had been in Astor House before in 2004, and this time (December 2009) we booked a one night stopover in Shanghai on our Holland-New Zealand flight, especially to enjoy the great athmosphere once again. Short walking distance to the city centre is an advantage. Booking through AGODA gave us a substantial discount as a bonus. We recommend this hotel very much!

Absolutley beautiful hotel. Large rooms, comfy beds and modern bathroom. Bad concierge and bellman service. Unfriendly. The shower pressure was horrible and the temperature of the shower water was either boiling hot or really cold. I thought the hotel was in great location, near to everything and the interior was beautiful. I went for a walk around the hotel every day it was so beautiful. Just don't expect good service, you'll have a better time if you come prepared for low/mediocure service.

Old and charming... clean, nice big rooms, very comfy, good staff. I thought it was on nanjing road (my mistake), can hear noise from the road. Traffic to that area is bad as the govt tore down a bridge that was an "eyesore". We enjoyed our one night stay, the room is very big, the place reminded my of my granddad's colonial house along with creaky floorboards, the corridors to the rooms were a bit dark but not that spooky. The bathroom fittings are new, good pressure and hot water. The windows were not double glazed for noise so one can hear the street honks and noise.
Travel tip : We went for a walk around the neighbourhood and found local lifestyles, ie places locals will go buy veges and hole in the wall for noodles. Lots of construction now as they prepare new highways and have closed off the Bund.
