Location is the best bet. Just one street from the popular Nan Jing East Road (a mere 2 minute walk from hotel to the street). Standard twin room generally good enough, though bathroom does not have bathtub (a pity). It even comes with a microwave! So convenient for a quick heat-up for snacks.
Lack of a bathtub. No sauna rooms, unlike what was stated on website. Gym is miserable with minimal equipment. Furnitures are old-fashioned type.
Like what many reviewers mentioned, the location is the best bet if you are looking for a convenient spot near Nan Jing East Road. Compared to hotels within similar walking distance, Charms hotel is relatively cheap if no frills facilities are needed. If leisure activities such as swimming, sauna, etc are a must, then this hotel is not able to provide for these. Other than these, it's a value for money hotel.

great location, near tourist area with plenty of food nearby
Room lighting too dim, and deco a little run down
For the price it offers, it is a good place to stay. However, the room should be brighter with better lighting, and needs refurbishment badly. Breakfast is terrible with too many large tables and too many customers. Will rather eat out than in the hotel

Good Location in Nanjing Road which can enjoy shoppoing until 9 pm.
bad breakfast and very slow check-in process
We come to Shanghai for business and we choose Charms Hotel because of location. We found that this hotel is locate on very good location of Nanjing Road and near to convenience store. Not expect too much about breakfast because it is not so good. The reception officer has no good english and we took time to check-in for 40 minutes without any guess.
Shopping Tip : There are 2 convenience store near the hotel.

Location, reasonable price, clean and tidy rooms
Rooms has mouldy smell, door not sound proof that we can hear guest talking
If one is looking for a good location which is near the mass transit, Charms Hotel is ideal. Staff could speak english.
Rooms are neat and clean. Only thing is the room smells mouldy and we could even hear guest walking past our rooms especially when your are put near the lifts. (ie door is not sound proof)
Shopping Tip : able to shop in the nearby shopping areas

Staff is rude. Hotel employees can not speak English well.

Great location at reasonable prices
The breakfast could be better. Need more selection of juice and cereal. Phone system need to be manned 24 hours particlularly for families of guests calling from overseas.
The hotel is good value for the money paid. Excellent proximity to the sub-way/metro and shopping area. The bell boys were very helpful. The avaialbility of the shuttle to and from the airport is an additional bpnus. The surroundings environment of the hotel is very safe, with many eating places and covenient stores closeby.
Hotel Feature Tip : Book iron and ironing board early (night before) if you need it for clothes the next day.

Courteous English speaking Front Office Staff, Good location.
Needs to improve on the tidiness in the restaurant service and add more options on the breakfast menu
In general, our stay in Charms hotel was good in terms of service, value for money and its location. The rooms are a bit small though and the beds are a little hard. Breakfast Menu remained the same in the 4 days we stayed in the hotel. I suggest they add more options on the menu.
Shopping Tip : The hotel is very near a shopping strip which is just about 2-3 mins walk. There are dozens of department stores nearby.

I think the location is a bonus for those who come to Shanghai. I like the business rooms, they are new and very convenient
Breakfast is every day the same. May be some variety and more fruits.
I think more types of cereals and yogurt may help
I was so glad in booking at CHARMS hotel. I have use the hotel in other occasions and I can see improvement. I think still can do better if they offer more information for Shanghai with maps and Metro Shanghai details.
Water is so important so the side of bottle may be bigger and the the possibility of free Shuttle to the MegLev to the airport will be a plus. In general a very good hotel.

Loc, Value for money, nice Western buffet breakfast, friendly staff.
Language is a bit of a problem especially when you are asking for ice / iron and iron board.
I found this hotel to the best of my content. Nice clean and peaceful. The best part is it is the best to the value of your money in that vicinity. I have been visiting Shanghai from past 7 years and almost every time stayed near Nanjing Road because I travel alone and this area around is crowded to make me feel comfortable and I don't get homesick. This the the best hotel I have stayed in this area so far and I have just stayed here once ( my recent visit). I do recommend this hotel to others.
Sightseeing/Attractions Tip : near to people square, Pedistrian street, Huang Pu river, Metro station, etc... which makes it among one the best locations to live in.

Located in a very convenient area. Breakfast buffet was included in the price.
When you walk in, the hotel looks a bit dated.
This place carries some of the Old Shanghai flavor. The rooms are in good shape. They are comfortable for one, a little small but still okay for two.
One younger supervisor was very helpful in pointing out different sites and navigating my way around the city. The location is ideal. Once you step outside the front door, you are a short walk away from the subway and the retail plaza on Nanjing Road.
The hotel is older but it draws a lot of visitors because of the prime location and the daily buffet. For the price you pay, the value is very high.

Cleanliness, lack of English
The location was great, from the Maglev its only 5 or 6 stops then a 5 min walk to the hotel. The rooms were doable, but not what was expected for the price. The "non-smoking" room smelt of smoke. The bathroom had mold growing everywhere. The AC in the room didn't seem to cool. Other than location, I would recommending atleast looking at other hotels in the area

Good access to Nanging Street, subway amd Band area.
The hotal is located very close to Nangjing Road and subway station, People Square. I could walk to Band area by walk enjoying senaries. There was no bath tub but it was fine with shower to refresh myself. There were a lot of restaurants around this area within walking distance and major sightseeing places can be accessed by the subway. It is recommended for travelers who would prefer comfortable travel with less expensive price.
Travel tip : There was a nice movie theater near the hotel and a lots of movies were on with 25 to 30 RMB.

Inflexible staff + difficulty communicating in English.
I stayed there for a night and checked in about 4pm.Despite asking for a non-smoking and twin bedded room, I was not given one. We were given breakfast vouchers which I had misplaced. Needless to say, we could not have breakfast there. I pointed out that we could show them our ID and they could just record our names. I think hotels should do away with those tiny bits of breakfast voucher papers which people are likely to lose or forget to bring during breakfast time. Many hotels simply record ones' name and room number for breakfast.
Sightseeing/Attractions Tip : Don't lose your breakfast voucher. There's a nice and unique small Beijing-Mongolian restaurant around the corner.

Location Excellent
Breakfast very good
Room waarm and cosy
Breaskfast can be better laid out and provide trays for the food
The hotel location is excellent for shopping and the underground
The rooms were old but cosy and the breakfast excellent but needs a more cosmopolitan menu
No Bacon on one day and the lack of trays meant that you had to pay several trips to the table
which can be a long way as the room is quite large
Difficult to book a table for oneself as the tables are feww and very large
Restaurant Tip : Ask for a tray

Charms hotel in Shanghai is very good in my opinion. It's value for money not expensive and service is quite good. Staffs can speak English well. Breakfast not many choices and free only for 1 person. Taste not so good but acceptable. It's very close to Nanjing road which easy for shopping and dining. Recommend this is good hotel for budget travellers.
