The hotel is well situated for amenities, shopping restaurants and bars. I have traveled to this hotel for many years and still the main weakness for me of the City Hotel is the small rooms, noisy traffic. I have stayed in the City Hotel many times during my visits to Shanghai and I have always found the staff to be warm friendly and helpful.
The only problem I found is the size of the room being to small, and unfortunately the lack of sound proofing to the windows makes the nighttime noisy and difficult for me sleep, it would be nice to see some improvement in that area. The rooms are very clean and tidy but the beds to hard for myself, the bathroom also I find to be small with poor shower / toilet pressure.
Sightseeing/Attractions Tip : The City Hotel is greatly situated for all your needs.

Location was excellent, Staff was extremely helpful and nice, Lots of restaurants in the hotel and nearby. Everything worked perfectly, internet, Air Conditioning. Price was very reasonable Great neighborhood. French Concessions area. I did not feel there were any weaknesses. I stayed there twice during my recent trip to Shanghai. One of best hotels I have stayed in considering the price, location, and staff. Highly recommend it to all types of travelers. Will there again with wife when we return together
Restaurant Tip : There is a Starbucks and metro stop just down street. Just off expressway, great shopping. Felt like Greenwich Village, New York

To reconfirmed your requirement before making a booking. Need more varieties for breakfast such as some shanghai noodle soup. Soup should change dialy, not Miso Soup (no one touch it)
Shopping Tip : there are some small house selling copy brand name thing on Shiangyang Road.

Modern, clean, excellant rooms Not suitable for tourist stays. Out of the way of tourist attractions and no tourist facilities. Hotel staff did arrange a taxi for four hours so we could see some of the city.
Sightseeing/Attractions Tip : Visit The Bund District and old Shanghai.

The hotel was clean and modern with a helpful staff. Room service and the mini bar were both very good. We also took advantage of the included breakfast buffet, and were very pleased.

good location, prompt service nothing nice, small rooms and old deko I would in any event back to this hotel, because the hotel is very centrally located and the price with about 50 usd per night unschalgbar is. was definitely surprised. However, you may not even arrive with great expectations, because then you will be disappointed because the hotel is miles away from a standard such as Hyatt, etc.
