This beautiful four-star villa-style hotel is nicely located on the north eastern part of Xuhui district. Close by is the vibrant Huaihaizhong Street with its many malls and shops. The large property is a rare sight in Shanghai, boasting a tranquil environment from the hustle and bustle of the city. The spacious garden in front of the hotel is perfect for a relaxing stroll in the afternoon. Guest rooms offer modern comforts such as complimentary broadband Internet access, electronic safe, cable/satellite TV channels and mini bar. Exterior appearance. Classic interior decor. Balcony rooms with big, OPENABLE windows.
Carpets on 5th floor at least need cleaning. Staff professional but not the most friendly I've ever met.
Not bad value for money. The location is good and pleasant and the feel and ambience of the place is rather nice and a refereshing change from the predictable 'international hotel' vibe. 5th floor room with balcony included free internet access (connection a little slow and unpredictable, but it was free!). Always nice to be able to open windows and get some fresh air.
Travel tip : Jing An Temple 10 minutes walk away. This is on lline which goes straight through to LongYang Rd for Maglev. (Allow an hour to get to Pudong this way by public transport)

Wonderful location in the French Concession.
Great building but the interior could use a rehab. It's clean though.
The Donghu is centrally located in the French Concession on Donghu Rd right off Huaihai. Nearby are expat faves Dragonfly Massage, and Elements Fresh (delish healthy American food). The hotel is the former house of the 20's gangster Donghu, and has a very cool art deco inspired exterior. The interior is "French Concession" Chinese style but it could use a rehab soon. That being said, it is clean and the service is prompt. Highly recommended for the price and location.
