an acceptable hotel so far. however, it is currently under renovation and it got very noisy during day time. the rooms are indeed getting old and i think it will be much better after renovation. the bad thing is internet access is not free and it's expensive in china

Good Hotel and Location, but don't expect too much

The Golden Tulip location is very good, just off W. Nanjiang Rd., convenient to shopping restaurants and the metro system.
My room was a studio suite, which was good sized and a nice layout. For the money I paid, I would say it's a good value.
However, I would caution travelers to not expect much more from the hotel. The staff was friendly enough, but not always helpful. English language skills were just adequate.
My room was hot, and the fan/ac didn't do much to help. There were no international TV stations. My room key stopped working and for some reason they couldn't get another key to open my door. So I wasted 1.5 hrs back and forth with different keys and discussions over the course of the day before I insisted that they change my room.
There were protesters laying on blankets in the lobby for several days, who apparently had not been paid for some job they did.
The Aussie guy next to me at check-out kept saying "I've already pre-paid my room charge!"
Summary: good hotel, good location, but don't expect much more that!

This hotel is conveniently located and the rooms are fairly good sized and comfortable. For the price I paid it was good value.
Beyond this, however, the hotel has nothing to offer.
The staff quite frankly are not good, not attentive, not customer service orientated, and lack sufficient English language skills to service international customers, assuming they would want to provide customer service.
Without going into all the details of my particular problems, I would say this is a very fair assessment of the hotel and the staff:
Decent hotel and good location, but don't expect anything more!
