Beautiful room near subway and train station

the grand mercure shanghai zhongya easily surpassed my expectations. i have been to shanghai before, and on this trip, planned excursions to suzhou and hangzhou. the hotel is located about a block away from both the subway (lines 1, 3 and 4) and shanghai train station, so it was perfect for that. but what was even better was the room itself. incredibly comfortable pillow top bed (if you know china, most beds are as firm as concrete!), beautiful modern room and decor, large bathroom with very nice shower (also very nice modern design). wifi in the room wasn't working, but a quick call to the front desk fixed that (they brought a new router, and the connection was solid and fast). the room itself was not huge, but at the same time, i didn't think it was small or cramped. perfect, actually, for this solo traveler, and could have easily and comfortably accommodated two. starbucks, fast food options, and convenience marts right outside. i ate elsewhere in the city, so i didn't even try to look for other restaurant options. however, it was a perfect place to both head into the city (people's square is just a couple of stops away, and nanjing road and the bund is nearby -- only one subway transfer) and to day trips. i will definitely stay here again.

The hotel was perfect for exploring Shanghai - it is so close to the metro that all the attractions are very easy to get to, it also makes it easy for taxi drivers to find!! The rooms are great, exactly what you would expect- clean, nicely decorated and very comfortable.
The staff were helpful and polite. They can book train tickets for you to avoid the queues at the station.
Hotel Feature Tip:
The easiest way to find the hotel is to come out of exit 5 of Shanghai Railway metro stop and turn right, 30 second walk and you are outside the hotel doors.

Location is really convenient even though may be a little complication because near the main train station but very easy to access to all the places.
The environment is good bed is comfortable just the SPA is too expensive to try. Also not much entertainment inside the hotel.

The room was lovely and spacious and the service was great. The bath was a swimming pool and the breakfast was varied.
Restaurant Tip:
There is a dumpling take away just to the left if you walk out of the hotel to the left. Good for late night snacks

Hotel had all of the frills you would expect and the rooms had all the amenities. Service was good. The one problem I had was that it was a little difficult to get a cab, and the distance was a little far from the Bund and the French Concession, and also the Portmann. So I ended up spending too much time in the taxi. But if you want quick access to the railway station, this hotel is for you.

Impressive new image of Grand Mercure
MTR station is just a few steps away

This is not the first time I stayed at Grand Mercure. Even though it is near railway station, which some people might not associate it with premium location, I actually found it both convenient and safe.
The Executive rooms are not very huge but well designed. Buffet service on 5th floor is out of expectation. (Not bad!)

Best thing about this hotel is its proximity to Subway.
From PVG airport to Hotel is by Subway 7 RMB.
Hotel to subway station is only 1 minute walk.
Subway to shopping center like Nanjing Road is only 4 stations away.
Restaurants are abundant nearby and there are more in the Shanghai Railway Station which is also walking distance.

First I like to thanks to the room manager ( sorry I forgot her name ) who up grade my room to superior suite
The room is so comford especialy the bed make me sleep so well
Room are very quite, hardly hear the noice from out side and the bath room, ehm tumbs up :)
Bath room facility are so complete and room are so huge make me very relax to all shower and make up activity
Breakfast : event make me more happy after a very nice sleep, veriaty of choice, fresh and delicous, yumm
Even thought is far from the shopping arcade but MTR are next to the hotel, only walk about 2 minute to MRT and I can Shop every ware, especialy the bund
Once again thanks to Grand Mercure Shanghai Zhongya Downtown, I will be back again :)
