Second stay in one week after a two day trip to Beijing. Staff service and hotel were a good welcome for a midnight check-in.

Just above Shanghai metro station, short travel distances to most city attractions.
Staff, from doorman to reception, are friendly and will assist at all times - a nice place to stay.

i have been coming to zhongya for three years now, and every year it gets better. the hotel is close to becoming perfect.
while not located downtown, i find it is convenient, given that the metro station is 100 feet away from the door of the hotel, and the train station is across the street.
the hotel is extremely clean. housekeeping and maintenance do an excellent job. pacific coast feather bedding is very comfortable. large bathrooms are outstanding, super clean, with every amenity. if you are on the executive floor, expect complimentary private breakfast and drinks, flowers in your room, and attentive service. it is worth the extra money if you can find a deal.
finally, service...i lost my luggage in a taxi. the concierges and front desk went through security tape footage to find the license plate of the taxi. they tracked him down, and retrieved my luggage. how many places will do that? special thanks to peggy.
overall, outstanding service, comfort, and convenience. choice of design and decor is excellent. you will not regret. 5 star hotel for 4 star price, sometimes lower if you're lucky.
oh and grand mercure, if you're reading this, i never write reviews.

Great hotel, friendly staff, close to station
The buffet in the long was a bit basic but very comfortable on the whole

the hotel was very comfortable, i enjoyed the executive
lounge as it enabled me to relax in the evening, the breakfast was really good and the staff were so helpful and friendly at all times. the concierge wasngreat in giving me directions for the taxi as i don't speak mandarin and would have struggled otherwise. so overall it was a god experience and i would come again. the bed was great too.

wonderful executive suite with delightful preferential service. excellent club lounge happy hour drinks and desert.
good service. flexible and quick staff at club lounge. attentive housekeeping staff who attended to problem w sliding door without being told. great i pod dock, lovely flowers , motorised curtains and extremely clean well kept rooms. rooms very large and opulent refined.
only room for improvement hotel room lights too dim, spot lights very hot. should have more indirect lights. my second stay. love the metro line exit no 5 just at the hotel exit. very convenient yp shanghai railway station for high speed train rides.
one of the concierge staff have airs about him, ought to remember his role!
breakfast at tiffin again did not fully met my expectation as bacon is still tough and lamb cutlet was uncooked!

i booked two rooms and stayed in the hotel for 7 nights just before chinese new year. we were so impressed that i decided to come back and stayed again in feb 2012 after a quick trip to beijing.
the hotel is next to the main beijing railway station but a 20cny taxi ride to the main bund area.
by any standards this hotel is good to very good. by chinese standards this is a great hotel for both business and leisure. if you can afford this i recommend the executive floor which you get both breakfast, and the lounge on the 27th floor. my boys call this the freebie place where they can eat and drink and play with their computers.
Hotel Feature Tip:
if you want your laundry done, please do try laundry express. we had about 40 pieces of clothing to wash. they picked this up from the hotel, wash them to a high standard, dry and fold them and returned these to the hotel within 24 hours for around 120cny. what a great service!
