Really nice beds, great location for tourist attractions, great staff, next to China Construction Bank for those of you who have a Bank of America ATM card, only one long block south to street that has plenty of good restaurants and a convenience market.

Construction across the street, so ask for room overlooking garden area, or take a pair of ear plugs that will help with the noise factor. However, the Four Seasons across the street has the same problem and their guests are paying a lot more for their rooms.

Really enjoyed the stay at this hotel. Although the construction across the street will be ongoing for a year or so, one can still get a good night's sleep even in a room on the front of the building. The staff was most helpful and hotel was accommodating. However, smokers are allowed on all floors, which I think should be changed. The rooms do not smell of smoke, but the hallways does.

Sightseeing/Attractions Tip : Turn left from the hotel and go to the first street and look for a stairway on the south side. There you will find a basement and upper floor open market of vegetables, fruits and fish. Fun to see.

Location,value and quality standards

Construction across the street that continues into the night, although with ear plugs, one will get a good night's sleep. The guests at the Four Seasons across the street from the hotel who are paying a much higher price also has this construction problem. Request a room overlooking the garden area on the south side.

We had a great stay at this hotel and really enjoyed the staff. Location to metro is within 2 long blocks, but from there, one can get to almost anywhere in Shangahi with exception of Yu Garden and Old Shanghai Street. Take a taxi for this trip. Lastly, purchase a Shanghai public transportation card for 20 yuan at the metro station. It is good for metro, taxi, buses and ferry. The very low cost is well work having it in hand when going in and out of the metro. Card can be recharged.

Hotel Feature Tip : Nice choice of resturants on the street south of hotel. Da Papa'Mario Italian and Thai had great food and service. Small ocnvenience store where one can purchase beer and other fun stuff is also on this street. Wine store on street just outside the hotel and to the right on the other side of Starbucks. Two western grocery stores are within walking distance.

Hotel located in the good sentral part of Shanghai, Wery nice interior, Clean rooms and wery good service from staff. Only 10 min to walk to Nanjing road shopping street and by taxi you can get to the most popular plases for under 5$. Tennis court and spa with swimming pool. Breakfast was exelent with ewerything you need incl chef making egg ore omelett of your choice. Constuction on the neighbour lot was noisy 24 hours a day. Internet connection in Room could be quite slow but is free of charge.. Restuarant somehow need to have some upgrade in overall food and beverage selections and quality..

Quite centrally located, easy access to many attractions. Easy to get taxi around this area as well. Rooms are clean and comfortble. Staff were friendly and speaks English. I have stayed in the hotel for 10 days, and services are great throughtout my stay, you can aspect your request for room amenities (hair dryer, ice cubes, etc..) to de delivered in less than 10 minutes upon request..great service.

Clean and comfortable room. Staff were friendly and service was good. Housekeeping staff done a great job in maintaining the cleanliness of room (Studio Room, whic I stayed in)

Guest are often disturbed and approached by outsider at night to promote "night hotel massage"...Internet was a little slow..Many room amenities in not available (but you can request with no extra charge) e.g. hair dryer, iron..etc...The Howard Johnson name in Chinese not reconized by many taxi drivers, thus you may need to remember the location well as every driver will ask you to point the direction to the hotel when you're near the area.. .

Overall a good hotel. Staff were efficient and friendly. Within walking distance to one of the famous street food spot in Shanghai, Wu Jiang Street. Near to many spot of attraction including Nanjing Road "Walking Street" and People's Square.

clean and elegant. kind people who work there. can speak english.

no money exchange

The hotel treated us with kindness and were extreamly helpful with sightseeing locations. The room is spacious and clean. There is also free internet and the was plugs are all fitted so any one can use it from any country. The hotel is in a safe location with the subway near by, 5 minute walk. There is no place to eat next to the hotel other that starbucks but if you walk toward the subway station there is a lot of restraunts. Overall the hotel is worth every penny!

Restaurant Tip : Walk toward the subway station and to the right there are many many little places to eat. If you like Yakatori then there is a place there that is so cheap and really good.

The location is great. Within walking distance to several good restaurants (and even more adequate ones). The room was large and the blinds worked super as the room stayed ultra dark free internet

Elevators are slow, carpets in the room are showing their age, upstairs spa is overpriced (head to Dagu Road 2 mins away for may options that are good at half the price

We were very satisfied with our stay and thought the hotel offered a good bang for the buck. As noted above, the rooms are large and very comfortable. The staff was friendly and there are a lot of things to do within walking distance. This hotel is comparable to a US Marriot or Sheraton so not luxury but upscale...this is not what many would expect from a HoJo. In Shanghai there are many great options so this hotel does not stand out but if the price is right we would return.

Shopping Tip : Dagu Rd. for massages, there are over 20 but Dragonfly won an award and seems to cater to ex-pats.

good location, close to Nanjing road west all the malls and food stuff.

the air-con is blowing wind straight at my face if you lying on bed, and it didn't make the rest of the room cool enough.

staff are quite helpful, and polite. they gave me a high floor,it was good view. and i like the room, although not very big, but well put, plenty of room of a single traveller to put my shoppings, etc. just the air-con is a bit unthoughtful, as i don't like cold air directly blow at me. otherwise good value very good.

Sightseeing/Attractions Tip : there's a little cafe called wages under citic plazal, very good sandwich and salad. otherwise the grand hyatt in puddong has the best blueberry cheesecake!

CLEAN, Good gym

Cost of breakfast

This is a good base while in Shanghai, it's located near shops and restaurants. The staff a very helpful although the process of checking in and out is very slow. This time I had to pay for breakfast as opposed to having it included in the rate and was shocked at the cost -either have it included or eat next door in the coffee shop.

New and nicely decorated. Staff are friendly and efficient. Location is quite central and very easy to get a taxi even on a rainy day or friday evening. Beds are very comfy and spacious. Free internet access is a welcome.

Some rooms may be a little tight in space. Mobile phone signal is bad in some rooms.

I had a small complaint about the room and the general manager immediately took action and upgraded me to a much bigger room and offered to transfer my luggage while I am out enjoying dinner with friends. Almost all of the staff were well trained and offered smiles whenever you looked their direction. The food at the cafe was not bad and not expensive and had good choices in the menu. Overall a very good experience compared to many others at that price. I would recommend this hotel to any businessmen. Oh there is also a KTV club on 2nd floor offering adult entertainment and massage places are plentiful around the corner.

Nightlife Tip : Many massage places just around the corner of the hotel. Good, clean relaxing massage at decent prices. Many restaurants and dvd stores on the next street.

Professional service, well equipped room for business travellers, conveniently located in central Jing'an district.

No usage of swimming pool (or rather I understand that it is by membership only).

It was a pleasant stay at HJ Business Club Hotel, as had been for my past five to six previous stays. The service had improved much since my maiden stay. The convenient location of the hotel is attractive and the rooms are very clean and modern. Staff is polite and not overbearing on the customers. A good experience.
