basic hotel in a good location
good location to reach major tourist areas - old town, peoples square, bund

I booked the hotel as it was in a central location close to all the tourist areas of the city.
The hotel is basic, no frills and was having a lot of building work done at the time. The staff were not particularly attentive, had little english or customer service skills.
Luckily i spent very little time there as I was busy exploring the city and the place was simply a bed for the night. The room was clean spacious but basic, if you want anything more than that this is not the hotel for you.

Good central location

We were able to walk to the hotel from the train station, a bonus for us as we enjoy getting to know a city by walking. It was easy to find, the room spacious, clean and the beds were comfortable. We don't speak Chinese and the staff limited English skills and not particularly friendly and outgoing, not like some of the hotels we've stayed in belonging to this chain... Regardless, good value for our budget.
Sightseeing/Attractions Tip:
Being centrally located this hotel was good for us to take off on foot and find many of the attactions we hoped to see.

Lovely hotel in the descent place

Good stay in the good place. The hotel is located in the heart of Shanghai, near The Bund and the French Concession. Also, there is a subway station near the hotel (Dashidjie). Hotel has free wi-fi, internet in the rooms and free computer in the lobby. Rooms are quite big. The only disadvantage is smoking everywhere.

i came to shanghai to pick up my passport with my indian visa. my only document was a photocopy of my photo page of my passport and a receipt from the indian visa application centre.
for two weeks i have booked into hotels no problem, but not here. the chubby little desk clerk would not accept it. i even had a mandarin speaker translating but to no avail so i had to get in a taxi and waste time and money getting a paper from chinese immigrant control. not happy.
i did not take the standard room, i took the deluxe. i have no idea what the standard room was like but i would not describe the deluxe as deluxe. paper cups? how tacky is that!! no drinking water? nice one. a kettle but no coffee and no refrigerator. hardly deluxe if you ask me
did i enjoy my stay there? no, i thought it was expensive for what i got and the staff? blxxdy awful. i am an aussie and we do not like officious little toadies.
i noticed that this form said i had a standard room, i did not
i booked and paid for the deluxe.
Sightseeing/Attractions Tip:
It is a short walk over the pedestrian overpass up to Nanjing Rd and then a couple of Klms down to the Bund, a great evening stroll and the scenery spectacular. The most amazing skyline I have ever seen.

The hotel is located between Bund, People's Square and YuYuan Garden/ Old city. So easy to walk to all these interesting places. Could be a bit loud due to the road traffic around (but guess normal in Shanghai).
Nice was the view from the hotel to the park opposite, watching the Shanghainese doing exercises. Internet was working fine and room was quite good. Personnel could talk English and easy check-in with the hotel voucher.

The room is good even for 2-4 people. There's enough space for the toilet. I just hope there are more english channels for the TV and that there's wifi even just in the lobby.
Travel tip:
For budget travels and for those who love to stroll out until midnight, this hotel is a good option.
