Kaibo Express Hotel, Shanghai

This hotel is located in a little cul-de-sac up a lane off the main road so there isn't a lot of street noise. It's only a short walk away from the nearest subway station and there's lots of grocery stores nearby and a vegetable and fruit stand just before you go up the lane to the hotel. Place is clean and tidy. Rooms are small and decor and furnishings are basic. Also, the hotel's electric sockets might need some updating. I'd stayed in a more modern (and expensive) hotel just before I checked into the Kaibo and my travelling appliances worked fine, but a hair dryer that worked with the fancier hotel's sockets would not fit the Kaibo's. Also, the hotel's description said it had rooms came supplied with hairdyers. This is NOT true. The biggest downers was that, though the rooms and lobby are very clean, the cleaning staff starts running their vacuum cleaners and LOUDLY cleaning at 9 in the morning. They also like to knock on your door and ask to pick up your trash can and to give you clean towels. That's all very nice, but not if you want to sleep in an hour or two past nine. Oh yeah, the guests tend to be younger Chinese who take two or more adjoining rooms on a floor so things can get a bit rambunctious in the evenings.

Kaibo Hotel is the best hotel I have been in since I am in China. A low room price, a good location and a very good breakfast. The room is cozy, so perfect to visit the town and have a rest at the end of the day! The only thing that can be perfected is the english speaking of the staff!
