Good location in the city and a big hotel, quite large and clean room, good variety foods, good staffs with english speaking.

Not known much for taxis and local people, not in subway routes

We selected this hotel to stay while traveling in shanghai during october 14 - 17, 2009, location near huahai road and xintianti area, yuyuan market near local food street and many modern stores around, and easy going around by taxis or on foot, buses

Sightseeing/Attractions Tip : EASY TO WALK AROUND THE TOURIST POINTS.

Location is the best reason to stay here. It is a bit beaten, but certainly clean enough and has what you'll need. You can literally throw a stone to Dongtai Lu and the antique stalls there and right next door begins the bird and flower and fighting cricket market.

The road is under construction...but not overly loud. We were on the 13th floor and couldn't hear it...just the blocked street and sidewalks below were a minimal impedement.

I'd certainly stay again at this hotel. While a bit beaten and needing a bit of a makeover, it is clean and functionally run. The staff are functional in English, but clearly are not happy in their jobs. The location is the best reason to choose this hotel. You walk right out the door and across the street to the Dongtai Lu antique stalls and the Flower and Bird (and FIGHTING CRICKET) market is right next door to the hotel. Ten minute walks lead you to Fangbang Lu Antique shopping or into developed trendy Shanghai.

Shopping Tip : Right across the street and straight into the Dongtai Lu shopping area you'll find a tiny shop selling antique cotton fabrics and she'll whip you up an amazing bag or shirt. The price is the best shopping deal in Shanghai!

The location is very good, few minutes walk from people's square and the room generally clean though forniture is old

The hotel is run down, the forniture old and 'used'. Carpet is apparently clean...

The Hotel is in a good location, close to People's Square. The receptionists speak a minimum of English though sometime they seem kind of reluctant about communicating in English and they let foreigners costumers to wait, and conversation is then kept to a minimum essential. The rooms are run down, the forniture has been there for probably twenty years and the carpet dates the same. In general, the room is clean and air conditioning works.

Location

staff performance

It's a hotel for budget traveller. Location was good to get around city. Many local restaurants & street foods are surording the hotel. Room was in old style, but still be able to provide comfortable sleeping. On the other hand, staff's English ability needs be improving and more smile could be much better.

Great location, close to lots of interesting attractions.

The staff are USELESS. I could have walked in with a machete and nobody would have noticed/cared. DON'T USE THE TAXIS THE HOTELS CALL FOR YOU. We did going back to the airport and he tried to majorly screw us twice. We had to threaten him and take his photo. Don't use the taxi with the number plate: D N9281 and Shanghai Taxi Service ID 298151. He's a complete scammer and a pretty big moron.

We had a satisfactory stay for 3 nights. The buffet breakfast was ok, nothing special. They have 3 computers with slow internet on the 3rd floor. Sometimes you have to wait a while as people are using them. Overall, for the price we paid it was fine. Personally if we went back, I'd rather stay a little further north to be closer to the more modern part of town, but it would probably be a lot more expensive.

good location, clean rooms, friendly staff

in the dried seafood neighborhood- not ideal for the squeamish

This is a decently priced hotel for HK with a nice pool, small but clean workout room, clean rooms, friendly staff, and decent location. Within walking distance from major shopping, SOHO, and metro. Also very close to Hong Kong Station/ Airport Express. One negative aspect about staying here is that it is in the dried seafood district- definitely not the place for those who don’t like the smell of seafood.

Reasonable walk to the Yu Yuan Garden, Shanghai Museum, Huaihai road; helpful staff

Internet was a bit patchy, only two terminals were working at any one time.

Overall, the rooms are spacious, clean but a bit timeworn. The staff is courteous, friendly and helpful. The complimentary breakfast is fairly simple but there are quite a few choices at the buffet. The location was very good for my needs as a tourist, but it's currently a fairly dusty and noisy area, as it is located on the main road heading to the Shanghai 2010 expo, and there are buildings been torn down and pipes being laid along the sides of the road.

Travel tip : Ask for a room at the back of the hotel, off the main road

Free internet faciliie. Cable TV. Located near a MRT station.

The air conditioning was not warm enough. The carpet is a bit stained. Breakfast selections could be improved.

The hotel is strategically located, i.e. within walking distance to the MRT station, Xin Tian Di and SSouth hanxi Road (shoppping area). As there are many shopping malls nearby, finding food is not a problem. Clean room and bathroom. Confortable bed. Friendly hotel staffs. The free internet facilities at business centre really helped me a lot in planning my trips. Overall, I had a pleasant stay at the hotel and would definitely stay there again whenever I return to Shanghai.

Walking distance to main shopping street (Nanjing Road).

Hotel very dated, room desperately needs refurbishment. Construction work currently being carried out right outside the hotel.

First impression isn’t good at all. Road outside hotel is currently being widened with construction work happening day and night. Conditions outside the hotel front steps are a scene of chaos. Hotel itself is very old, the room we stayed in desperately needs to be refurbished. Size of the room is quite big, but still doesn’t make up for its condition. Breakfast service is OK, not a great selection but perhaps the only thing good going for the hotel. Won’t be back again.

Excellent Location. Close to shopping and subway

Construction was ongoing in front of the hotel

The hotel is in a great location, the staff courteous. I was pleasantly surprised by finding a nice lobby and bell desk area with a garden in a small city hotel- good use of space. The standard room size is bigger than normal;however, the carpet in the room looks a bit beat up, everything else is great.
