The hotel is in a very nice and accessible location to transport, restaurants and "The Bund". The hotel has a very old but nice interior. The hotel staff are quite helpful and courteous but not all the front staff can speak English very well. We found out that we were overcharged for the car rental going to Suzhou - Rmb1,000, while we were only chraged Rmb685 from Suzhou to Shanghai.

Nice Location; Accessible to The Bund; Satisfactory Hotel Service

Hotel Needs Refurbishing; Room has a Smokey Smell; We were overcharged for the car fare going to Suzhou

  • Sightseeing/Attractions Tip : Just a few minutes walk to The Bund attractions

Acceptable but not great Guest Rating: 3.0

Staff can speak English in a reasonable way, but not so friendly at all.

Excellent position, rooms big enough.

Rooms quite old and bathrooms very old.

The Metropole is located in a central area on Shanghai's traditional western part. Reachable by a short walk are Nanshing East Road (main shopping area, including access to Underground Transport) and Yu Garden. The hotel itself delivers a good quality for the price Agoda was able to offer. The rooms are clean and the service is friendly. The only critic from our side is the policy of an empty mini-bar - even drinking water was only available upon request.

Central location, reasonable price, and friendly staff.

Flexibility - unfortuntately a modification of the booking was not possible (Problem between Agoda and the hotel management?) Mini-bar was empty - even no drinking water.

  • Nightlife Tip : Just five minutes (Bund-direction) is a very nice Blues Bar.

It's not so worth to stay in this haunting old hotel.

  • Restaurant Tip : We should go to eat anything from the restaurant on Shishuan Rd. It will be far cheaper than hotel.

This hotel oozes old charm. The rooms are tidy and comfortable. It's an older hotel but it's in pretty good nick. Close to alot of the attractions around the centre of Shanghai. The Bund and Nanjing St are both a 5 to 10 minute walk from the hotel. Will go back to this hotel when I'm in Shanghai.

Close to the Bund, this hotel has some good old atmosphere.

Watch out for the hawkers, you'll run into plenty of them.

  • Sightseeing/Attractions Tip : See Nanjing St at night.

Historical atmosphere a little bit, and maybe a little wornout also.

Recommended - if you are travelling on the cheap but want decent accommodation (it was in fact cheaper than the IH Hostel down the road)!!!

  • Nightlife Tip : The Captains' Bar on Fuzhou Street is a great place to kick off the night - cheap drinks - not pretentious and you meet travellers from all over the world - PLUS a most brilliant view of the view of Pudong!
