New Asia Hotel Shanghai Info
Shanghai New Asia Hotel was constructed in 1943.
It is a 9 story mansion and was the first hotel in Shanghai which was funded, designed, built and managed by a Chinese group. The hotel was renovated in 2003, retaining its original look, but improving its facilities and changing its interior decoration. There are three main restaurants in the hotel that serve a mix of cuisine. The White Clouds Hall provides Cantonese food, the Sea Clouds Hall serves Shanghai styles, and the French Restaurant serves Western food. The hotel has a post office, a ticket reservation office, billiards room, sauna, dancing hall, karaoke and gymnasium. The business center is equipped with fax, printer, photocopying and access to various meeting rooms. The hotel is within easy walking distance of Shanghai's prime shopping area on Nanjing Road. It is 3 km from the Railway Station, 40 Km from Pudong International Airport and only 18 Km from Hongqiao Airport.

good rooms and good location
services are expensive
and the front desk and lobby personnel aren't that friendly
My room was clean with plenty of light. The hotel is conveniently located near the bund about ten minutes walking distance. The downside is that room service are relatively expensive compared to other hotels I stayed at in China. The front desk and lobby personnel spoke English well but were not the friendly staff I've dealt with. However, the hotel is a good deal and I would recommend it to anyone.
Sightseeing/Attractions Tip : the old town is a fascinating walk. The locals are friendly and don't mind photographers. There are too many hawks pushing you to buy in the Nanjing area. I avoid this area unless you plan to shop for upscale clothing. There's alot of construction going on esecially on The Bund. The international airport is 35km from the center and costs 160 yuan by taxi. The New Asia has no shuttle service.
