Comfortable art-deco hotel with Japanese service
The hotel is very stylish. Service is top class, especially the Japanese restaurant. Room was very clean.

We will definitely stay here again. I have nothing to complain about this hotel. It is well located in the French concession area. The garden of the hotel is very nice. It frames the window when one looks out to the city. The only strange thing about this 5-star hotel is that going to the swimming pool and gym one has to pay. Come on, isn't this a five-star hotel ?

The management must do something about the very serious issue of smoking.They are happy to allow smokers to put the health of others at risk and ruin their enjoyment of the public areas.Nobody can pretend ignorance of these dangers any longer.Their own staff are subjected to the most appalling environments in their bars and restaurants.It is morally derelict.

Great service but room smelled musty and old!

I tried this place on a whim to see what a 5 star hotel is like--I usually stay at a nearby 4 star! The first room they placed me in smelled like an old lady's house--very old, musty, moldy! There was nooooo way I would have been able to sleep with that smell. When I asked about a new room, they gave me one without any pushback. They really need to do a remodel of the rooms as they do not look like the furnishings or carpet have been changed since the 1970's.
One thing I really liked is that they always have taxis lined up outside to take you anywhere.

the best hotel in shanghai
superb location and service

the hotel is the best in shanghai but they are gradually introducing wi fi to all rooms, try and book above floor 22
as of today's writing
at the price i paid it's a bargain and the garden hotel is always my hotel of choice when I come to shanghai
