The hotel is located in a good location at Pudong, though two cabs took a while to locate it on my return to the hotel. It is spacious on the outside but unfortunately the room size is average. There are lack of facilities like gym, swimming pool & internet connection (no wireless) as they were under renovation. Dining at restaurants and drinks at bar are extremely expensive. Hotel staff were not exceptionally friendly though they attend to matters when requested. However the hotel lacks many standard practices for a 5-star hotel like provision of (free & designated location) newspapers, tourist brochures, tour arrangement, booking of train & taxi services, sufficient wireless internet connection, free drinks on arrival, complimnetary fruits on arrival, & general lack of dining & drinking outlets.

One of the top rated hotels I ever stayed

We stayed 6 nights at the Oriental Riverside Hotel. When we walked into the room, the view from our room was spectacular. Boats with red, green and blue lights floating on the Whangpo River was simply beautiful and difficult to describe. The old Bund district that I used to see in the 1930-40 photos was still there.
The service was excellent and the restaurant in the first floor was simply outstanding. I strongly recommend the Oriental Riverside Hotel to anyone who visits Shanghai.

The hotel was difficult to navigate, few signs in english - in contrast to Shanghai where most signs are bilingual. Staff was unfriendly and at time hostile. 50 yuan (US$7) fee for borrowing an umbrella...

The room is present and clean. The location is great and within walking distance to Pearl TV tower and shopping mall. If there is a breakfast option, that will be great. We ate breakfast there for $230 Chinese Yuen per person. Since it is connected to a convention center so it is usually very crowded. The staff did not speak English too well and we have a bit of difficulty to communicate with them. The pool and gym are closed but with no indication in the room or post anywhere in the hotel. That is a big disappointment.
Sightseeing/Attractions Tip:
Taxi service is cheap, but most of the taxi driver did not speak English, so you better have a map and know where you are going before you get into a taxi. If you know the Chinese language, taxi is cheap and very easy to get

The location of the Riverside hotel is very nice. Near the Pudong river and with easy access to the Bund. Shopping is also within walking distance. The hotel is clean and, important, they speak English. negative point is that the hotel always seems to have repairs or rebuilds, so do not always count on the hotels amenities like swimming pool and exercise room.

The location was great, just opposite Pearl Tower and a stone throw away from Super Brand Mall. There's tunnel ride straight to The Bund right outside the hotel. The hotel staff seemed inexperienced. DND signs was on but yet they came in to make up the room. When i called the manager to question she said that its their practice to make up the room even when the DND sign was on so what is the point of the DND sign? Ordered room service and was told that all oriental food on the room service menu is not available so i ordered pasta. The pasta that was served was so hard. Swimming pool was under construction. There was at least 3 pairs of worn bedroom slippers found under my bed that belongs to the previous few occupants of that room.

In short, the location is great for business travellers as it is right at the financial district. Less than 5 minutes walk to the IFC. The surrounding environment is good. The food and staff knowledge needs improvement in order to serve customer better.

This hotel is excellent for a short stay. Excellent location downtown Shamghai. Everything is perfectly clean and the rooms are great. Close to a metro station. This lcoation is excellent for shopping, sightseeing and it's even a good location for the Shanghai international expo since you have a good acces to the metro station.
