Parkview Hotel, Shanghai

This is an excellent hotel in a great neighborhood. The facilities and the rooms are beautiful, and the staff is fantastic. Everyone not only spoke English well, but went out of their way to take care of us and make us feel at home. The rooms are spotless and luxurious with high ceilings, great views, and the bathrooms large with separate bath and shower. The hotel lobby restaurant breakfast buffet is huge but expensive if you get it separately, with Chinese, Japanese, and Western choices. My sister ate dinner one night in the restaurant and said it rated very highly compared to others in town. It rained most of the week we were there, and the doormen made sure we had umbrellas and hailed cabs for us. The hotel is also just 2 blocks to a #2 subway stop (Science Museum). And the Agoda rates were excellent. Why stay in crowded Puxi when you can be in the new heart of Shanghai...Pudong? Many excellent restaurants are within walking distance or a short cab ride, and it's in a wonderful new residential neighborhood. No free wireless in the business center, but the concierge was nice enough to let me use it free to check my email.

The Parkview Hotel was selected of the internet, sometimes a risky process, however we were pleased with the result. Pleasant rooms , polite staff, although more English speaking would help for general staff customer relations. However the food is a disgrace. to watch fellow guests walk into to the dining area, walk around the buffet a couple of times and walk out was common. The Hotel needs a good food make over and a real food manager. International guests need international food selections, yes ! But a decent well presented menu is essential and this was not evident in the 6 days of our stay. Improve and I will be back.... Do nothing and you will not see me again...

We stayed at the Park View based upon a recommendation from a friend. The hotel was further out of the center of Shangai than we expected although there was a Metro station ten minutes walk from the hotel. However the Metro station has a large population of street hawkers that appear to apply their trade 24 hours a day. As a westerners we were singled out for aggressive attention from these people every time we attempted to use the Metro. We found the staff at the hotel could not speak English very well so it was difficult for us to be understood. Whilst our room was well equipped it had a stange smell that gave the perception it could have been a little cleaner. We also found that the elevators were slower than other hotels we stayed in during our time in China.
