All rooms are suites and good for long stay at the reasonable fares.

Although the hotel is located near the center of Shanghai, it is difficult to show the location clearly. Traffic jam is severe, as the hotel is located in line of main street.

Good for long stay, as kitchen is available in the room. Room is clean and confortable, but the meal charge is higher in comparison with the quality and available selection. Since only two staffs are available at the check-out counter, it took a little long time to check-out in the morning.

Although a little bit away from the Bund area we found this location ideal for our needs. We love to walk in new cities so we even walked down to the Bund,etc. The room was very clean and spacious and gave us ample breathing room on a seven night visit.

Distance to subway would be detrimental for some but taxis are always available and inexpensive.

We enjoyed our stay at the Howard Johnson All-suites. Although a little bit away from the main tourist areas and the Bund we found the location ideal for our needs. We love to walk when visiting a new city so we even walked down to the Bund area one day. The distance from the nearest subway station would be detrimental to some but taxis were readily available and inexpensive. The room (we had the regular deluxe suite) was very clean and spacious which is great for a longer stay. The breakfast also offered good variety for a reasonable price. I would recommend this hotel for those who are visiting Shanghai for more than three days. The added space makes up for its slightly imperfect location.

Restaurant Tip : There is a Starbucka across the road. Also there is a great (but expensive) buffet at the Longemont Hotel which is also across the road.

Lobby service and concierge were helpful and good at assisting in travel etc.

Although advertised as " all suites " there are no cooking or eating utensils at all and when asked they would not provide a knife to cut a water melon but did send a staff member to do it for us.

I do not believe the hotel deserves a 5 star rating and would assess them more as 3 and half stars especially as I live in a Pent House apartment in a five star apartment building and am very familiar with these standards. Even though i had pre booked with notified arrival time etc. and requested a high floor i was given the eighth floor and on enquiry was told that i had originally been given the 24th floor but as i arrived at 8.00 am i was re allocated for early arrival otherwise they would have to charge another half day. The apartments are not very modern and they generally need a major refurbishment. We did not have a DVD player and on request were advised that if we wanted one it would be charged at an extra 140 RMB per day. Because of the highway on and off ramps moreover travel is quite difficult with drivers being unable to use much of the highway system in transporting you backwards and forwards greatly extending your travel time etc.
