Century Plaza Hotel, Shenzhen

check room you have booked as this may not be the same as the one you are allocated once i contacted agoda the room was changed, not much english spoken and complaints dealt with slowly and response could be quicker. don't expect uk standard 4 or 5 star hotel but it was comfortable and for the price excellent - great location - staff friendly and very helpful great if you can get a good deal

The best part about visiting Shenzen and this hotel was definately leaving... Even that was a drama! The staff do not speak english very well, apart from 2 or 3. The staff at the beauty/massage parlour within the hotel demanded tips after a "full body massage" (where they only massage from your shoulders to your lower back) and refused our offer as they wanted more! People can smoke at the breakfast buffet, which isn't very pleasant for a non-smoker. The gym is old and there is not much you can do there. Really Shenzen needs to come of age... The rooms are all different themes. The first room we got was very nice and modern BUT was above a nightclub which didn't shut down until around 5 am and all you can hear is the bass. The second one we were moved to was old and had a double bed... My partner is very well built and his feet were off the end of the bed when he laid down on it... Not really the most comfortable of beds! We were then moved to a 3rd room. This room was Japanese style and had obviously been a smoking room before becoming a 'non-smoking' room... I am an ex-smoker and picked it straight away... It was nice enough though and had plenty of room and a soft bed so we settled in and left it at that. The staff were less than friendly, when they could actually understand what you were saying to them. We did however manage to find a duty manager who was polite and spoke english very well! He is probably the most valuable staff member to the hotel! We would have left after the first night if he had not been there. Unless you speak Chinese, we would suggest you stay somewhere else...

I checked into the first room and felt ill within an hour due to the musty, stale smell. They offered me 5 other rooms which also smelled bad. Then they took me to an "executive room", a newer room, and that was acceptable so I stayed. I will not be back.
