Ping Jiang Lodge Hotel Suzhou Info

Full of charm and history, the Pingjiang Lodge comprises original Ming Dynasty housing and antiquities to create an authentic Chinese experience. Nearby lie many more mementos of China’s past, the Kunqu Museum and Pingtan Museum both within walking distance of the hotel. There is nothing unusual about the traditional charm of Pingjiang Lodge; it seems really old because it is. One of a new breed of ‘Culture’ hotels, the main hall of this property – a compound that consists of four separate houses – is more than 450 years old and the artifacts found inside span dynasties. The rooms continue the theme – ornate wooden Ming beds and views over the adjacent canal transporting guests to another time. Fortunately, services are somewhat more modern and complimentary internet is offered on-site, as is a proper continental breakfast.

Informality. Friendliness of ALL staff. Efficiency of ALL staff. Ability of staff to communicate in English language-. Availability of 'english' breakfast. Availability of "english"breakfast

Drainage in shower cubicle too slow. Fixed shower head did not turn off when 'hand' shower selected. Entrance door fouling door curtain. 'western' style cooking for dinner not good.

My stay at PJL hotel was made very pleasant by the efficiency of the staff. Any request was acted upon without delay in a friendly & cheerful manner. Informality & unobtrusive behaviour while still retaining professional efficiency was very welcome. Both myself & my guest felt completely welcome at all times. (freshening-up of varnishing & dusting in hidden corners need attention but did not detract from overall good impression).

Hotel Feature Tip : Taxi access to/from hotel is difficult. Be prepared to walk 200/300 M.

Unique, comfortable, charming rooms with excellent air conditioning. Limited English.

A bit difficult to find, but worth it!

I highly recommend Ping Jiang Lodge Hotel. Each room was uniquely and tastefully decorated with antiques, lovely fabrics. The rooms were spacious with excellent air conditioning - important during the summer season. There were small gardens scattered throughout the lodge, many with specific names and stories. The alleyway leading to the lodge was a good place to grab a snack or some breakfast, especially at the top of the street with several vendors to choose from. While the staff had limited English, their attention was certainly excellent.

Travel tip : The Arts & Crafts Museum was one of the highlights of our trip. Outstanding examples of a wide variety of workmanship in jade, wood, embroidery, and much more. A bit tricky to find. Try to have the address written in Chinese.

location to the canals, unique room features

restaurant and access to taxis

very interesting hotel, good for a weekend - longer perhaps not. room clean and interestingly furnished with original features. walls are thin, hard beds and proximity to canal motor traffic may hinder sleep. swift check-in, friendly staff and great setting. border the historic canal street and a short walk to shopping and restaurants in the town precinct.

Restaurant Tip : avoid the hotels adjacent restaurant, walk up towards the main road to find several restaurants and a reasonable bar...
