After travelling for 5 months some things are a must for a hostel and this place pretty much covers it all:
Good points:
computers to use downstairs with facebook access
books and games to borrow
good priced drinks at the bar
good location in a quiet area
rooms were clean and decent size (we had a twin room)
decent shower with hot water and pressure
kettle and cups in room (yay)
decent view of the surrounding karst hills
decent places to eat nearby and not far from West Street
free washing facilities
hair drier to use on each floor
decent duvet and pillows
use of kitchen
Not so good:
no WIFI in rooms (4th floor) so had to run up and down everytime you wanted to check something.
Clothes took an age to dry on the lines so maybe install a dryer?
English speaking owner seemed to just go through the motions of being polite when speaking to you
Other than that, great place to stay and would recommend

wow - wonderful & wonderful = two-ter-full
just everything. from hamson, the rooms, the location, the lounge area = no complaints.

Being of the older brigade (60 plus, hahaha) one could be excused for thinking we are too old for a "Youth Hostel" but with intrepid spirit and a mind of our own, we arrived at this hostel, met Hamson, found our rooms and thoroughly enjoyed the next 3 days. There is nothing one could complain about at this hostel. From the hospitality of Hamson, the location, to the comfort and cleanliness of the room, every box is to get a 10 out of 10. We have stayed at many youth hostels and the only one in the world in our opinion to come anywhere near to Travellers Land, is in Neafu' in Tonga.
Only negative people with nothing better to do, could downgrade the wonderful experience we shared. Hamson and his beautiful wife and daughter shared their kitchen with us and made dumplings. He even sang happy birthday to one of us as we were two couples travelling together and my sister came to China to celebrate her 60th with us.
It is beyond my understanding how this hostel is currently rating overall at only 8.1 as all four of us truly believe it is deserving of much higher. Nothing was overlooked in their spirit to make our stay an enjoyable experience.
Hamson, you are a gem and your Waxberry wine was fun, xie xie.
WE WILL RETURN.
"Big Dumpling" (the queen), "Little Dumpling" (Anna), "Mr Coldfish" (Gundi) and La Jaoi (Steve) all salute you and will not forget your wonderful hospitality.
If you want a 5star experience on a 2star budget, go to Travellers Land Youth Hostel, but if you want to complain, leave these peoples alone, just go somewhere else.

Great hostel but not in the centre.
Great service, clean, cosy place!

This hostel is a very nice place! We can definitely recommend it! The owner is a very friendly, helpful person, he speaks very good English and he can recommend you places to visit (we went to a recommended bar to eat- it was delicious and very cheap! we also had a 'blind massage' which was one of the best we have had).
The hostel itself has a very cosy common area, where you can meet other travelers, use Internet (two computers are provided), there is even a movie show every night on a big screen. The rooms a spacious and clean. Perfect place to relax!
It's not very central though (15min walk to downtown) but we didn't mind as it has many places around like shops, restaurants, etc.

Clean hostel with extremely helpful staff
Quiet location, they speak English, rent bikes und are extremely helpful

The hostel is mainly used by younger travelers (both Chinese and foreigners), and the atmosphere corresponds to it. The rooms are clean but small, air-conditioned, some with Western-style toilets, some with Chinese-style ones. Wifi in most rooms and in the lobby. Very moderate prices for beverages. The staff is extremely helpful and provides all information needed by individual travelers. They rent bicycles.

The owner makes a difference
Perfect hostel, perfect situated, helpful owner
9.7
Best hostel ever visited. The owner welcomes you in a very personal way. He speaks very good English and has lots of suggestions for trips in the surrounded area. He has good prices at the attractions, only half the price of what you find in the city.
The hostel is clean and the rooms have everything you need. There is a washing machine on the roof which you can use for free. It is situated about 500 m from the crazy West Street with lots of bars restaurants, souvenirs shops, and lively life. You will for sure appreciate the quietness in the hostel after spending time in the City. The view from the hostel is fabulous and breathtaking. Local people live beside and there is a supermarket close to the hostel. You can rent bikes but easily walk around the city.
Hamson (the owner) really makes guests fell at home and he has several books with notes about every country. Try his homemade waxberry drink in the bar.
There is free internet, “library”, films every night at 9 and a cozy atmosphere. A must try!
Sightseeing/Attractions Tip:
Try to find a local guide in the city. We met Esther and Wendy and they took us on fabulous trips by bike and electric motorbike in the around Yangshuo. You will meet places no tourists ever go.

A great and inexpensive place to stay
Location, services, hospitality
9
the hostel is situated in a very nice spot for exploring other scenic places in yangshuo. it is in walking distance to the xijie pedestrian zone, which you can find tons of shops selling art crafts and bars.
but the most impressive part is the travelling service provided by the hostel. we did not have to worry about transportation and arrangement. there are different well designed packages, with pick up service included, to you to choose. so it did help us s lot in saving our time.
and the boss is very funny! people there are very nice!
one thing not good enough is there is no wifi inside the room.

Very Affordable Hostel
Clean, incredibly friendly staff
9.7
What I liked best about this hostel was the hospitality of the owners and staff. When we arrived to the hostel, knowing we were Czech (from Prague), played the Czech national anthem for us! They also played a few other Czech songs, and asked us for our favorite songs so they could share them with future Czech guests. This is just one example of their friendliness and hospitality. Clean hostel, good location...I'd definitely stay there again.

lovely hostel for backpackers
the hostel inner decoration is comfort, clean and lovely
6.7
The guesthouse owner is indeed very nice. It is a bit far to the XiJie street, need about 15mins walking distance. But by renting a bicycle from the guesthouse owner, there is no an issue anymore. Free wifi is available, only applicable at the ground floor lobby though.
Restaurant Tip:
A very nearby local restaurant for 'ban yu' steamboat is damn delicious. Thanks for the guesthouse owner's kind recommendation.
