Hong Kong

Hong Kong is a study of contrasts, a combination of 2,000 years of Chinese history and 150 spent under British rule. Hong Kong is home to the largest number of skyscrapers in the world, beating out New York City, and it boasts the world’s tallest outdoor Buddha statue (the Tian Tau Buddha on Lantau Island). It is this perfect blend of European and Asian cultures, set against cloudy mountains and lush, green landscapes, that makes Hong Kong such a popular tourist destination. Hotels in Hong Kong come in all shapes and sizes, from basic hostels to extravagant hotels, all easily accessed by the numerous modes of public transportation available.

There is always something to see, do, and eat in Hong Kong. Amusement parks like Disneyland and Ocean Park are favorites with vacationing families, while the Victoria Peak is not to be missed for a breathtaking view over Victoria Harbor and Kowloon. Visitors must not miss a trip on the Star Ferry, voted by National Geographic as one of the top 50 travel experiences of a lifetime, where at 8 pm the sky lights up during the Symphony of Lights. Enjoy a unique meal at one of Hong Kong’s many traditional teahouses. Fine dining can be enjoyed at one of the five-star hotels in Hong Kong and outdoor markets or popular shopping area, Mongkok, are ideal for a bit of retail therapy.

Getting around Hong Kong is convenient with the MTR, public buses, ferries and trams. Most major Hong Kong hotels offer travel information and useful maps and the city is easy to explore on foot. Try Causeway Bay area for its eclectic mix of sidewalk markets, Japanese stores, and restaurants, or the hour-long circular walk on Victoria Peak for unforgettable views.
