I found Hotel Bonaparte by Rhombus (two-minute walk from Charterhouse Hotel) and Ramanda Hong Kong Hotel (10-15 minutes by taxi) a much better deal -- more comfortable and less expensive.

A good places is temple street market. For people who do not like Chinese food it is difficult to get western food except for Mcdonalds and Burger King. Even the hotel buffets were geared towards Chinese food.
Restaurant Tip : Do try the egg tart at a bakery on lindhurst terrace. The ex governor Chris Patten ate there. They don't taste like egg but kind of an almond flavour.

Price was reasonable, location was excellent close to everything. Staff were helpful. Rooms were old, beds are small for taller people and had little sheet/blankets. The charter house was ok for the price that we paid for the room. The location was close to shops, public transport, bars etc. The hotel itself has its own bar which has a soccer theme to it. Staff were very helpful giving me and my friends directions and advice where to go, which included booking transport for us. The rooms were in a old condition and the beds didnt cater for taller people as my feet were hanging off the edge. The beds also lacked proper sheets/blankets. Considering what we paid the hotel was ok.
Sightseeing/Attractions Tip : check out the big buddha at Ngong Ping, Lantau Island,

If you are not too serious about the smell of cigarette in the room, that's ok. But for my vacation with my parents, I am quite disappointed. I already asked for the non-smoking room when making reservation and I knew that it depends on the availability but my parents really can not stand with its smell. Moreover, the staffs seem not so helpful about this matter.
Shopping Tip : Shopping in Causeway Bay is gorgeous!

Great Location, close to the shopping areas (SOGO)/Timesquare, provide fruit daily, sufficient for hotel in HK, great TV channel, friendly/professional staff, clean. The rooms looks slightly old, the pillows wasn't smelt fresh on our 1st day - but then we requested for a change, and they gladly change it. We requested extra pillows, which they were able to accomodate as well. I was staying with my parents and brother in this hotel, for about 8 days. The staff was very friendly, service was satisfactory, they provided food daily - which is very good for promoting health. The best highlight was the place was very strategic, within walking distance to Times Square and bus to the Stanley Market. I feel comfy to stay at the same place next time I come to HK. Good value for money.
Shopping Tip : Ask for a shortcut to Times Square from the hotel staff and the nearest Yum Cha place.

It is difficult to find negatives with so much positives. Pure, silent, cosy small hotel. The low price makes it necessary for travellers to stop here for a few days.
Shopping Tip : The underground is 3-5 minutes away. The fruit market is two minutes away.

It is hard to find a better value for money in Wanchai district. If it is important for you to stay in the heart of the city then this hotel is a good choice. Do not expect anything special, but you will not be disappointed.
Restaurant Tip : Try the Green Foot restaurant which close to the hotel and Henessy road. Great local cuisine.
