This Hotel has a Great Location, very close to the Convention Center, as you can walk there, this is very convenient if you are attending an event here. The MTR is also within two blocks and finally it is in the middle of all the nightlife in Wan Chai as it is literally surrounded by Pubs, Restaurants and Night Clubs. To some this might be a little inconvenient as it gets loud until the wee hours of the morning, particularly if you are at the lower level floors, it is better to stay above the 10th floor.
Overall the hotel has a good staff a great location and decent installations, the only weak point is that the bathrooms are starting to get old and will need a major make over very soon.
Sightseeing/Attractions Tip:
Wan Chai Computer Center is an interesting place to shop and is three blocks away from the hotel.

Our stay at the Wharney
Position, service and comfort
8.3
We took 2 rooms, they were comfortable, clean and and well equipped. The position is brilliant, food everywhere, taxis outside, and action . Sure there are hookers outside, but everyone is cool. The service was fine, I asked for some scissors and got then instantly. We are in H K every 4 months and have stayed in many hotels, this one is great for the price and definately on our list again if there is availability.
Restaurant Tip:
Have breakfast outside, there are many interesting eateries nearby.

Wharney GDH, Wanchai
excellent location and price

I have stayed at this hotel for my last two trips, the first one was quite disappointing since I am more than 6 feet tall and the bath tub was a tad small; however, on the second time last week I was a given a different room and bathroom was satisfactory.
The biggest thing going for it is its' location being smack in the middle of wanchai with everything within walking distance and at the price it holds great value.
Will stay there again next time as long as they give me a room with the big tub.

I stayed at the Wharney for a single night, given the vagaries of transpacific flight schedules. I chose the Wharney because it was relatively inexpensive and looked like it was not bad. As many other reviewers noted, the hotel is RIGHT in the red light district; it's not really a good place for families. I had a room near an elevator, and given the traffic (amount and type) I saw through my door's peephole, I would guess that the hotel does not mind if hotels guests invite "guests" (working girls) up to the rooms. I was upgraded to an executive room, which was tiny. I can't imagine how small the regular rooms are. All of the above I can deal with, no problem. The deal breaker for me was the awful internet service the hotel provided. Virtually no yahoo services (email, messenger, search, news) worked, the connection dropped with maddening frequency and it cost $HK100 for all this frustration. Not recommended.

Piggy in the middle
Location by MTR, nightlife, Central
7.3
Well I keep coming back to this hotel...
Rooms are always clean, appropriate, tho the TV channels are limited
This part of Wan Chai is not very tasty... hardly even PG viewing at night.. there are some lively bars, but over the last few years the naughtiness has outweighed the other attractions!

Great Stay
The hotel is near the Wan Chai train station!
8.3
This was my first visit to Hong Kong. As a solo traveler, I wanted to stay at hotel that was near public transportation (subway). The subway is about a 3 minute walk from the hotel.
Shopping Tip:
Bring your own snacks! The 7 Eleven near the hotel is very over-priced.

First visit to Hong Kong
Well situated, most of the staff is friendly.
Tour operator staff in the hotel is very efficient

The Wharney was suggested to me based on the location. I found the hotel to be well located in term sof the underground, the bus routes etc. As a first time visitor it was a good choice although I will suggest that if you travel alone it might be better to stay in a hotel closer to central.
I read in some of the reviews that the bathroom walls are of glass and that there is not enough privacy, well there is a good blind that can be pulled down so do not let that bother you.
For young travellers the location is very good as there is a strip of bars and clubs around the hotel, excellent night life, for the more serious traveller it might not be so attractive.
The restarurants in the hotel serve very good food at a reasonable rate (Hong Kong reasonable).
The executive room was large enough (Hong Kong standard) it was well appointed and served the purpose of a wo nigh stop over very well. Linked with an adequate sight seeing tour for first time visitors it was a very comfortable two days.

The hotel is close to the center but the room is just so so, not big enough. The street is a bit noisy. It is not a big hotel but price is okay. The stuff in the hotel is helpful with some useful info. The trafic is convenient from the hotel.

Wharney is a very Nicely made hotel with good spacious rooms and the Staff is also very nice and helpful. Their location is very close to the Exhibition center. Though they become high priced during the Exhibition times other wise they are Value for Money.
Nightlife Tip:
There are lots of Nice Bars and Pubs very close to the hotel. So you can have a lot of Fun and Some Good food too.
